Data recovery - help!!

Hi all,

When I left the UK I diligently backed up all my laptop files (to inc my previous 5 years of work files + family photos) to a Western Digital Passport (external portable hard drive). The drive seems to have corrupted and whilst it tells me there is however many gig of data on there it simply will not allow me to open any of my files. I have tried EVERYTHING so would like to use a data recovery co to retrieve my data.

I have chatted to a mate of mine who is an IT guru who's reassured me it should be a relatively simple process (to an IT person), however he is UK based so not much use to me in my time of peril!

So, can anyone recommend a decent data retrieval company here in DXB who can offer a reliable service combined with a quick turnaround?

I desperately need to get my hands on some of my old files (new job - half the docs I need again I created 2 years ago, arrggghh).

Any recomendations most welcome!!

TIA

A good friend of mine has recovered data for me before on an old drive that I thought I'd lost forever. Call him on 050 552 1074. His name is Tags and lives in Umm Suqeim.

Went to Compume yesterday as I just happened to be at MOE anyway. They took the drive and told me a week to 10 days ..... ok, I can live with that so long as I get my data back. An hr later I was still in the mall and received a call from them ..... madam there is no data on your drive, only the drive software & we've transfered to another hard disk for you ...........errrrrrr, OK, I know there IS data on that drive (all 71 GB of it!!!), but I'll come see you now. The technician wizzed me through a couple of screens, and I agreed I also couldnt see any data ....so paid my 100 dhs and left it at that. I have since searched the drive again today, and with a little investigation can clearly see listed within one of the folders there are 41 folders amounting to 71 GB of data!!!! SafeData next stop .............. sigh ............. :-)

Excellent, many thanks BS. God knows how I missed their location map on their web site - DOH!! Good news is they're opposite me (I live in Trade Centre Apts) so can walk there :-) Thanks to you too Ashes - I'll try Compume if Safedata don't pan out for any reason. Praying I get my data back! x

Hi Lotti, Just hopped on my friends computer hence her account. At trade center roundabout jump on the service road that takes you past Crown Plaza hotel. keep heading down there looking out for Al Rostamani Towers there is an A and a B you want Tower A. I just drove down there slowly and remember going past Moosa towers or something similar. be prepared to do a few circuits, the first to locate the place, and then the second to work out how close you can park to it...parking is a real pain. On thier website the location map under contact us is pretty accurate....keep your eyes peeled for Pizza Hut as you turn right there and Safedata entrance is a single glass door on that side of the Tower. (you go up some stairs to the reception. There are signs for Safedata and HP and Compaq so you cant really miss it. PS i couldnt get through on the phones EVER, i told them when i was there too and the admin lady just looked shocked but it seems they havent looked into it. hope this helps....i went last saturday so not sure if they are open today or not.

Ahhhh thanks Ladies. Blueskies - I'll give SafeData a try. Where on SZR are they? Could you give me directions? (tried calling them but they're not answering - then again neither would I at this time on a Thurs!) Thanks again!

I just had my computer repaired a couple of days ago at SafeData on SZR. They were great although a simple problem in the end i had no idea what i was doing. On their website they advertise data recovery (i had a lot of files that would have needed retrieving had it gone up the spout completely) you should give them a try i thorougly recommend them. the only thing is parking can be an absolutle nightmare round there....i had to walk ages with my desktop when i collected it!!! http://www.safedata.ae/ i had trouble getting through on the phone and they didnt reply to my email, although they got it, but after i paid a visit they were extremely helpful.
