DS turns 1 in a couple of weeks and I was thinking about having a small party in one of the parks (apartment is way too small!!!).
I have heard that I may need to obtain a permit? DOes anyone know if this is true? and if so, what are the details?
Thanks!

Maybe permit needed for gathering that involves selling stuff, charity, that kind of thing. Maybe.

I guess this is like anything in Dubai, different rules for everyone and different days.

So what is the difference between a bunch of people meeting up at the park, like I see people doing every week by the hundreds (without permits), and having a party at the park? I'm very interested in this - regularly in the parks at the weekends and there are literally groups of 40 people with tables, chairs, full on catering. i never knew anything about a permit...?

The rule is fairly new and only came into place this year. The price mentioned was about 100Dhs., but this was told by one of the security guys, so not sure how true that is.

I agree I think it depends on size and on where... we had a party in Mirdif park with no permit

I think it depends on how big a party you plan to have, as well as which park you choose. I had my DS's birthday party in a park near the Lakes and we didn't get a permit and had no trouble. My friend had her DS's party at Mushrif and had no trouble. And I see large parties in Safa every Friday, and I'm sure they are all not getting permits.

Thanks for the reply Cleopatra. I don't suppose anyone knows how much it will cost?

This is true, but I don't know if this is the case for all parks. My friend was asked to obtain a permit for Zabeel Park. And was told to get this via the Park's Administration office which is onsite. He also mentioned that another alternative was the municipality. It has to be obtained a couple of days before and of course they want some money for it. As this process is fairly new, I guess one have to be patient as I'm certain there is no protocol in place yet. Good luck and enjoy the party:)
