UK expat trying to get a uk Mortgage

Having lived in dubai now for 4.5 years.
I'd like to buy a house in the UK, for when I do eventually go back, but in the meantime rent it out.
But as I'm a contractor out here in dubai and not paid tax for so many years now, I think I may struggle to get a Mortgage back home.
Does anyone have any advice or come across any problems with this idea?

I'm with Barclays Offshopre/International, which is Jersey based so still fully regulated. Didn't use a broker, there were limited options for expats at the time (I think about 4 max) it was a very easy process, did most over the phone and then I couriered my original docs over. The difference for me was that I was buying a family home so didn't need as much in the way of checking the property etc so that was all very easy.

Hi all, resurrecting an old thread incase anybody has any new leads. I am a UK expat trying to get a uk Mortgage! I have contacted Liquid Expat Mortgages and waiting for a call. Does anybody else have any useful contacts or experience with any other brokers or success directly with banks?

@Mollydxb I can't recall the exact rate but I think it is 3.29%, you can check their rates on their website. FYI Halifax don't offer mortgages to expats any longer, they pulled out if the market late last year. HTH

I dealt with Liquid in UK. I believe there is someone who visits here back and forward but their main office is in Manchester.

I have checked the Liquid website and there are only details of UK and Canada offices. Does anyone have a current tel no for Stuart in Dubai, please?

I have just completed this with NWI. There are a choice of products fixed rates, tracker rates etc You are looking in the range of 3 -4%. As well as rates you need to consider whether each product allows overpayments/early settlement and also arrangement fees for fixed rates etc

DXB AGAIN May I ask what rates Natwest are doing at the minute on 75% mortgage? I'm sorry to ask but I just can't be bothered to complete their on-line forms and wait 7 days for a call etc.... We did this whole process 4 years ago with the Halifax and it was all very easy but they made a bit of a boo boo with our paperwork which has left a bad taste in my mouth

We are just in the process of this, again via Natwest UK, having to jump through a few hoops with supporting information but on the whole it's ok and the rates are competitive. If it is your only home you may not need to have it as an expat, just a standard mortgage. HTH

We have just invested in property in the UK and got our mortgage through HSBC as we were Premier customers and it was really easy. The rate was pretty good compared to others in the open market. Unfortunately expat mortgages do attract a higher interest rate compared to residential mortgages, the assess the risk differently I think. It can be really stressful buying from a distance though. I don't know the area you want to buy in but we used an agent in the North East called Homes or Houses who specialise in Expats, Jackie is brilliant and also visits Dubai regularly. Might be worth googling her site for info. Good luck!

I can second Stuart at Liquid. It took a while to get it sorted but most importantly I now have a flat in London

Hi Polly, It may sound like a stupid question but do you still have to have the 25% deposit with an expat mortgage? I want to buy another one now as prices are low in the area I want but not quite got the 25% I need. I just know that in 6 months they'll increase. Sods law and all... Hey Molly, Not 100% sure at OH is dealing with it all ;) but I do know that it is quite a high deposit yes and the rates are quite high too. Drop Alan an email I am sure he can advise better than me x
