Hi there

I've arrived in Dubai and feeling rather confused with the house hunt! Hope you can help.
Our kids will be attending GEMS Wellington Al Khail , FS1 from September 2014. Where would you choose to live? We probably don't want the kids in the car longer than 20 mins, but I'm open to your experiences.

Thank you

Thanks everyone. Budget is £180k ish - I really don't want to exceed 180 although a lot of properties are being advertised at 200k/ year. Family is 4 - me, hubby and 3 yr old twins. Thanks all

You need to give an idea of your budget and your family if you want real help.

Welcome! Well it all rather depends on how big (or small) your budget is for housing and whether you want a villa or apartment. There is Arabian Ranches obviously but also Motor City (there are massive apartments with huge balconies in Newbridge and Foxhill and Town Houses). Motor City is a mature community with landscaping, pools, gyms and shops - don't be put off by the Autodrome. There are races in the winter months and one or two 24 hour events but the noise is minimal. JVT and JVC also offer good choices for families but this is less complete and I don't believe there are any major facilities there yet but as you will be out taking the kids to school, you will be able to swing into C4, Spinneys or Geant on the way home. Layan and Remraam on the Bypass Road are also nice new communities. Layan is a little more established with shops just beginning to open and Remraam is lovely - really quiet at the moment but do bear in mind aircraft noise once all operations from DXB relocate over there later this year when the main runway is being upgraded. More and more low grade airlines will relocate to Al Maktoum, drawn by cheaper landing fees, etc so Remraam will be increasingly affected by aircraft noise. Again, Remraam has nice pools but there are no shops at the moment but it is just a 5 minute drive to Motor City or the shopping centre at Arabian Ranches. Then there is also Sports City (mostly apartments and still a massive building site) and Victory Heights - both give great access onto the E311. Good luck in your search.
