And second the baby grows, can never have too many. Also those bamboo or muslin wraps are worth their weight in silver. Freeze stuff if you can, have all the staples on hand, have more bath tissue than you think you'll need, have a ton of washcloths so you won't have to wash so often. Rest when baby rests, it's been said so often but it cannot be more true.

Not sure about survival kits but the following preparation tips helped us: Keeping a stock of biscuits & teabags for visitors, keeping loads of stock of things like washing up liquid, toilet rolls etc, so you are not having to make unnecessary supermarket trips. Pre-freeze looooads of soups, scones, stews etc. You really won't feel like cooking those first few weeks.
Keep loads of babygros, don't bother with too many outfits, you'll just want to hibernate.
