Dear all,

Are there any reliable recruiters amongst you ladies or would you by any chance know of any recruitment agencies who could assist us in finding a Management position in Dubai?

My husband is looking for ideally a CEO/ Director position (Learning and Development/ Operations Management) however, we have not come across any serious recruiters so far. Each and every experience we have lately in dealing with them has been very disappointing and utterly unprofessional and I would like to find someone competent.

I would highly appreciate recommendations or any suggestions that may useful.
Many thanks and a great weekend to you all!

Thank you very much Pluckybrit. This is very valuable information! We will make sure to contact Tecside and also look for other outplacement consultants upon your recommendation. It may also be worth looking to be in touch with agencies and consultants that have an international presence and recruit for this region rather than the ones that are solely based in the GCC.

But you shouldn't mix up recruitment and outplacement. Recruiters won't hep your DH find a job, they find people for their vacancies. There is a big difference. Outplacement consultants help people to find a job, I know because my Son in law used Tecside and they were brilliant. He couldn't get any interviews due to connections but this company has loads they were happy to share.

Fantastic! Good luck Zuhairah - if you need someone to chat to for a bit more background on how they operate, ask for James Maidlaw. He's one of the good guys in recruitment and, even though he specialises in the banking field, he will be able to give you advice / put you in touch with the right specialist (and then you aren't really going in cold).

Thank you very much st7, that is super kind of you! He is currently in a full time position in an educational institution, but there is absolutely no room for growth nor any possibility to work in Dubai or AD hence he is looking to change the role since more than a year now. I am not sure if it would make any difference but if you think it would I am happy to email you his details. Would the position be in Dubai or AD?

thank you very much for the replies. st7 and Asti, you are absolutely right. I can feel the market changing and I sincerely that it will pick up again soon. Most of the times I have found a decent job in this region it was through connections. Since I have resigned my full time position a while ago to work on my own business it has been fairly challenging to connect with others unfortunately. My husbands current job is in Al Ain and we have decided to move here for the meantime which make things even tougher however, when the right opportunity comes we will move back to Dubai or even AD in a heartbeat. Even though it was a welcome break from the hustle and bussle a year ago I am very ready to move back. @ Annorman, it is very kind of you to send the name of the recruiter you DH works for. My husband is ideally looking for a position in Learning and Development such as Director of L&D, or Head of Operations or Performance Management. He has mainly worked with the government and training organisations. We are open when it comes to the field. Many companies are expanding their performance divisions so I will have him call the recruiter you proposed. Once again, thank you for all the suggestions. We highly appreciate it!

HR and L&D people only get jobs if you know someone within the company that can give your cv special attention and if you are already living in Dubai. If you are applying from overseas forget it. There are people with MBA's and living in Dubai who cant get a job or even get shortlisted for an interview. Nobody is hiring. in fact the opposite is happening...always happens just before summer holidays...

Hi Zuhairah, What field of work is your DH in? My DH is presently recruiting for Financial Services positions and is exclusive with Robert Half who do a lot of work with the Abu Dubai banks. Appreciate your DH is at CEO status and hence none of the roles would be suited to him but worth giving RH a call if he does work in banking. I'm aware that FGB have lost a number of exec positions lately and are actively looking for a number of key roles to be filled. Happy job hunting!

Hi Innon, Thank you for your reply. That makes sense as we are either only receiving fairly rude replies or none at all. This also goes for organisations. My DH had several interviews where he i.e. reached advanced stages of the process such as creating and presenting high caliber presentations (Which take days at times to prepare) just to never hearing from the HR person again. We are trying our best to go through all channels, including Vitamin C but so far any offer, if any that was presented to us was not worth considering. What 'other solutions' would you recommend?

Unfortunately there are no real recruiters in Dubai, just companies that pass your CV through the Tracking Software and then just forward it to different companies without even considering what you are applying to. You will have to look for some other solutions.
