Hi all,

I am new to Dubai and am not sure of the answer to the following, if anyone could help me?!

I have just moved into an apartment in Remraam and I gave my Mum in the UK my new address. Without me knowing, she has sent a small package to me. I have been told that without a PO Box address and / or mobile number on the parcel there is little chance of me actually receiving it. She just took the parcel to the post office in the UK and sent it via air mail.

Can someone confirm for me if the parcel will end up at my apartment without a PO Box or mobile number? I feel so bad that she's sent me something and it may just get lost somewhere!

Thank you!

Update - my Mum received the parcel back this week, returned unable to deliver! At least she has it back and she can bring it out to me later in the year.

Many thanks for the replies. In future I will get all mail from overseas sent to my work PO Box address. I will also follow up with the central Post Office in the hope that my parcel from my Mum is out there, somewhere! It did have a return address so hopefully it may even end up back with her in the UK.

I'm also new to Dubai and haven't figured out this one yet! My husband sent some passport photos to a company PO box number and they never arrived, yet two parcels we sent to the company main address got there fine :/ Check if your building has a PO box for your apartment, if not I've heard you probably have to set one up

I know some Emaar apartment buildings have postal deliveries to them but they have a communal box number as well. My building has PO boxes in reception area for each flat's box. We get deliveries once a week.

In future get your parcels sent to your office. Or even better invest in a Shop and Ship account - check Aramex site online. This gives you a UK address for your mum to send parcels and then they will deliver to your door in Dubai. Not expensive and great for online shopping too! For this parcel, once it arrives here (allow at least 2 - 3 weeks) go and check at the central post office. Sometimes they will keep parcels there for a period of time which are missing the PO BOX. If your mums parcel has a tracking number you could also check on the emiratespost website. They are also very helpful on the phone - worth a shot!

The postal system here is not like in the UK, Emirates post only deliver as far as a PO Box and then you collect from there. Any mail to be delivered to an individual property must be by courier. Sadly your parcel could be lost forever as there is nowhere for it to go without a PO Box number. If she has written a return address then it may be returned eventually. Even PO Box addresses can be a bit hit and miss, I have had several parcel sent to the PO Box but still not arrive. The only sure way or receiving parcels is by Courier i'm afraid.
