Apologies as I know this has been asked many times and I did a search but would appreciate precise info: my visit visa is about to expire (res visa still to be processed). What is the easiest, least time-consuming way of getting another 30 day visa? Car is registered under husband's name (he has his res visa) so if I need to drive somewhere to renew, can I drive myself and show the 'card' which shows his ownership?
Many thanks.

This is what it currently says on the official Uae embassy Uk site, although not sure how up to date it is. Afriend did extend her visit visa at immigration 2 monnths ago for a fee without having to leave the country. [color=#000099'>UK Citizens – Visit Visa Citizens of the UK (with right of abode in the UK) will be granted a free of charge visit visa on arrival in the UAE. No application in advance of travel is necessary. Your passport will simply be stamped with the visit visa as you pass through Immigration at any airport in the UAE. Although the visa may be stamped for 30 days, it entitles the holder to stay in the country for 60 days and may be renewed once for an additional period of 30 days for a fee of £100. Please note that holders of British Overseas Citizens Passport who do not have the right of abode in the UK do need visas to enter the UAE. All visitors should have a valid return travel ticket and a passport valid for a minimum period of six months for tourists and employment. Resident visas and work permits are issued by the relevant authorities in the UAE after an application from a prospective employer[/color'> edited by michamen on 23/03/2011

Your cheapest option is to drive across the border to Hatta. You need to double check on two things though (i) not all car insurances cover non UAE drivers and I am assuming that you are driving on your UK licence. (ii) not all car insurances cover Oman. Expensive Option but quickest is to go down to DNATA travel centre on SZR and there is an immigration office in there. Take your passport pay 650AED and they will stamp it for you for another 30 days. I have to disagree with VP it is not written in black and white that you get 10 days grace period after your 30 days are up it all depends who gets to see your passport, whether they are in a good mood etc. This is one of those UAE gray areas.

Thanks, Blueskies - was totally under the impression that you had no alternative but to cross the border. Just tried to call them - no answer, but perhaps it's lunchtime - will try later. No problem, just wasnt sure if it was a driving in dubai query also. might be worth a drive there.....sometimes better to go ask in person...they cant ignore your presence.....well......on second thoughts some departments here try too.....probably still best showing up though. good luck,

If the car is has a bank loan attached to it - you now also need a letter from the bank giving you authority to take it across the border. A friend had to deposit a cheque for the whole outstanding amount of the loan with the bank as a guarantee in case they did a runner! No thought is given to the fact that if you could afford to pay a cheque into the bank for the whole of the car loan, then you really wouldn't have had a loan in the first place! Also need to check insurance covers for travel out of UAE. Plus VP had a very good point she was trying to be helpful usually you can't drive a private car here without residence visa and just not wanting the OP to find herself in bother at the border. edited by Dally on 23/03/2011

No probs, Vero Possumus - appreciate your trying to help. Everything I have heard here says that you have to leave the country after 30 days until you have your residence visa, so will just do that this time and hopefully next month it won't be an issue any more....

I am English and a British passport holder. THe driving license is not the issue - the visa is! Are you able to advise on this? Thanks!sorry, I was just making sure because i thought you can only drive a rental car on a visit visa and did not want you to have problems at the border. Can't you extend the visa in the British passports at immigration? I am not sure, but thought they will extend for 60 days.

taitai - I think the easiest and cheapest way is to go across the Hatta border, I take my son once a month. You need to take the Oman turning off the Emirates road and just keep going straight, Oman is sign-posted all the way. It will take around three hours round trip and you will go through various passport checks on the way. Once you reach the exit dubai border you will need to go to one of the desks where they will check your passport again and stamp it with an exit stamp - I tell them we are renewing the visa so they don't stamp mine as I have a residence visa. Continue on your journey to the Oman border enter the building and fill out a form - on the desk to your left as you enter (unless they move them!!) Go to desks on right hand side, hand over your passport and the form and it should cost around 200 dhs. Yes, I have done this many times!! Good luck - oh and carry your car insurance just in case they ask to see it.

I was not aware that Dubai still issued temporary driving licenses. I thought I read it on here that they had stopped issuing them, anyway, they were only valid for one month. What PP do you hold?

What the car has to do with it is that I assume the easiest way to renew visa is by driving over a border somewhere. Yes I am insured to drive it, yes I have a driving license that allows me to drive here until I get a local one, and no it isn't just that I want to drive the car (I do that everyday), it is that I need to renew my visa and that may be the way to do it! If anyone can help with this visa renewal, I'd appreciate it. I just need a straightforward reply - many thanks!
