With BA you can fly up to week 36 (with a fit to fly letter). I flew all the way through both my pregnancies and up to week 35! I was fine every time and never once avoided the x-ray machines.
Just keep hydrated, move around, wear support tights and if the flight looks empty make some noises about puffy ankles or the such - you might get an upgrade!
Good idea about your note though - in the UK they give you your notes to carry around with you all the time, worth getting a copy just in case.
Great advice. I hadn't even thought of the security x-ray machines. I will be traveling at 27/28 weeks and am nervous, but have been cleared by my doctor and have my travel certificate for Emirates. I will also have my 4-year-old with me. Wish us luck!
can you really avoid going thru X-rays??. What X-ray machines?, the security ones?. I will be also traveling in the next few weeks and would like to know.
Absolutely. The x-ray machines are the ones you go through in each airport (usually where your hand baggage is checked). All you need to do is signal to the guard that you are pregnant, even if you are not showing, the security will allow you to walk around the x-ray machine. In some airports, such as those in Dubai, you go into a private room where a female security officer will pat you down. In other airports, they may use a hand-held scanner which is apparently safe to do so.
Regarding medical certificates for airlines, check the terms of carriage for each airline you plan to travel with. I just came back from Egypt this weekend and I did get asked to show my fit for flight certificate from my doctor. Most airlines will only ask to see this from about week 26 onwards. You are usually asked for this by the airline at the check in counter although one air hostess did also ask me on the flight whether I was approved to travel.
Another tip - ask your doctor or clinic to provide you with a pregnancy report which details all your particulars including your blood type and other vital information. Dubai London Clinic provided me with one of these as soon as I found out I was pregnant and I have it with me wherever I go ...

I am travelling at 14 weeks too. My doctor asked me to visit her before I go and said will give me a medical certificate. Since, I didn't ask for one, I thought it might be required by airlines. Make sure you check with your airlines and yes, definitely visit your doctor. It should be alright.
How old is your DS - if he's under two, it would still pay to get him his own seat, you don't want to be sitting with him on your knee for hours as he could be too big for the skycot or the flight could be full with no chance of an extra seat for him.
Agree with Shellly - also travelled a lot and including long haul without any problems. Best to check with your doctor though. Please remember that you should not walk through the x-ray machine and there is also a risk with e-gate - one Emirati customs official warned me that there is a laser which can be potentially dangerous but another one said there was no issue .. personally I would be cautious and still go to the e-gate section but get them to scan your card manually.
If your pregnancy is going along just fine then I don't see that there would be a problem traveling then. I traveled a lot in my 1st and 2nd trimesters and I mean a lot. Just 'try' and not lift heavy suitcases! Safe travels!! ;)
