Hi all. DH's head honcho coming to Dubai with his wife on a long layover. Wants to have dinner with DH and me, struggling on where to take them. Has to be nice and impressive, but not over the top. DH says their food style is "more European than Texan" so no steakhouses!

Can you recommend something that will impress with good food, good atmosphere? Many TIA.

I second the recommendation for La Petite Maison -- just won the Time Out best newcomer award + delicious!

Reflets is far and away my favourite restaurant in Dubai, but just to warn you you might find it over the top. There is a prix fixe menu at about 600 pp, otherwise the a la carte is much more expensive. The ambiance is lovely, but it's definitely a formal French meal.

Thanks ladies. Tentatively booked Reflet (per the other thread, thanks) as they will be in and out of the airport, but will be spending some time googling the other recommendations and may change it up. I, sadly, don't get out that much so haven't been to any! Really appreciate the recommendations. ETA - has Jamie's restaurant in DFC received their license yet? edited by txjuliet on 03/04/2011 Good choice, they just won restaurant of the year. http://www.timeoutdubai.com/restaurants-awards-2011/gallery/22531-restaurant-awards-winners

I would second Teatros, very good food, reasonable prices and the right atmosphere for your occasion.

Somewhere that represents Dubai...so agree with the Madinat (Pisces is great, with amazing view of the Burj al Arab), somewhere that overlooks the fountains (Asado in The Palace Hotel is excellent) or Atmosphere (top of the Burj Khalifa), would all be good. These are all places I'd use to welcome senior colleagues

Teatros in Rotana on Sheikh Zayed Highway, always popular, has a varied menu with everything on offer and nice decor. Middle of the road prices but such a nice place. One of my favourites.

http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=142473 this thread had some good suggestions You can't really go wrong with a choice at Souk Al Bahar, or Madinat Jumeirah/Mina Salam/Al Qasr I was going to suggest Madinat Jumeirah but was afraid it would look as if I'd finally got a job, with them :)

What area of Dubai do you live in? You dont want them to be sat in the car for ages or a long taxi journey. What about Jamie Olivers new restaurant at DFC? I really like Frankies in JBR (although, perhaps avoid at the weekend as the bar area can get busy and i find those who start off posh and sophisticated end up showing their true colours after a few which is cringeworthy) Another great place is Okku at the Monarch hotel or Le Petite Maison that recently opened in DIFC, (this one is AAAMAZING) Good luck
