I have been looking at nurseries in and around umm sequim and I am finding that all the staff are predominantly filipinas. I really want to send my child somewhere with British (qualified and speaking) teachers, can anyone recommend somewhere really good, getting tired of looking! Thanks.

I'm happy sending DS1 to The Childrens Garden in Jumeirah. Most of the primary teachers are Western (British and European) and DS1 now has a strong Brit accent!

We were happy with Palms Nursery and Rainbow Nursery, both British.

In defence of the Philipino teacher: My son goes to Blossom Umm Suqueim and has a lovely Philipino teacher who puts a lot of effort into her work. I had my reservations being new here but I am now very happy, he is a very late speaker at 3 1/2 and now sings all day long (in French Arabic and English) and his speaking has really come along since he has been there. He has been to nursery in the UK and Spain and in the course of it I have researched and visited hundreds of places. Don't dismiss the Philipinos too quickly, and this comes from a harsh critic. I have on the other hand come across British teachers with the most hideous accents and unbearable pretentious attitude so beware, best of luck.

The Children's Garden has mostly western staff, they have a nursery at Green Community DIP, and another one in Jumierah. I am a big fan of Children's garden both mine had such a great time there. They also seem to keep their staff - many are still there from the opening of the green community branch so 5/6 years ago I think.

I recomend Blossom Village - Charlotte the director is great and the staff are warm and caring. I would recomend you take a look as it has a great space and is very flexible for working mummies. It is not British - but international, with qualified and caring people who go the extra mile. My ds is happy!

Just wanted to add that nurseries seem to have a very big turn over of staff in Dubai so what you see today is not necessarily the case when your LO starts nursery. edited by Babyrat on 04/01/2011

I would highly recommend Emirates British (tried only Mirdif Br.), my DD is really enjoying it, & got a very clear english Accent. But again the teachers there are british, wile the TA are from phillipines (but believe me its not an issue at all)

Have you looked at British Orchard? Teachers are from UK and speak British English however a lot of them are not Western. All teaching assistants are filipinas though.

DD's have both been to Emirates British Nursery - although we went to the Mirdif one, not their Um Sequiem branch, I can't speak highly enough of it. I'm sure the US one would be great too - certainly worth checking out. DD1 has quite a strong English accent which my Australian family are none too happy about! My lo used to go to Ladybird nursey down near the Jumeirah Post Office. It's a while since she left but the staff there were predominantly native english speakers.

I am with you Simpsons, it is a real problem out here. Also just ignore women of a certain age on here that comment when it's totally unecessary!

Thanks. plenty in the uk Thanks Sue but I live in Dubai. so why are you expecting only British staff ?? Oh dear, I think you didn't read my post correctly or maybe you are just looking for an argument, try a different thread maybe? Yes I live in Dubai and the majority of staff are from the phillipines with poor English at a time when I am trying to get my child to learn to speak clear English. Is that ok for you Sue or do you still not understand Sue? edited by Simpsons on 03/01/2011

Blossom Nursery in Um Sequim has western teachers & filipino assistants. Thanks, I did look at this one but I didn't see many western teachers, maybe I went to the wrong branch? As far as I know ALL the teachers are western with 2 assistants (who are fillipino) to each class. My LO goes to the Um Sequim branch (opp Jumeriah Beach Hotel) & I have yet to see a non-western teacher. If you visited this branch did you go after 1pm? As i think most of the teachers take their lunch break shortly after 1pm. My LO is only in until 1pm & always has his teacher in the class until that time. Hope this helps!

Have you tried the Willow Nursery in Um Suqeim - its on St 9c, very close to the Al Manara/Al Wasl Rd traffic light intersection?
