I baked a simple cake in an electric grill/baking oven, covered the top with baking paper and reduced the heat from the recipe by 20C. Still I managed to burn it from all sides plus inside the middle layer looked somehow strange. I used a black metal cake ring :(

I must agree with Apricot...I was having a lot of baking issues when we first bought our new stove...I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong...temp was set correctly and I didn't deviate from any of my standard recipes, but everything was still coming out hard! A friend suggested I get an internal thermometer since sometimes oven temps vary, even if it's set where you want it...I was shocked, our oven was almost 30 degrees higher than what it was set as!!!!! Now I use it every time and no more burned sweets! Good luck

I use a microwave size electric oven/grill combi as I don't like to use the gas oven. But seems it's not really suitable for baking then. Thanks for the advice to use a thermometer. Will try that next.

so you used the small oven toaster type thing, right. i have a mid sized one and in addition to grilling, i did use it once or twice to bake as the manual says its meant to. however the temp is really off and your best bet is to use a thermometer to calibrate it once and for all. it does overheat too quickly too much although the instrution manual makes it look like there wont be any problem.

Maybe hang a little oven thermometer inside the oven while the cake is baking, and keep checking that the temp remains constant. Sounds like your oven over-heats!

Not sure what type of oven you have used but the standard is 180 degrees celcius for about 30 mins in an electric oven. I have a fan assisted one and have been reducing the heat to around 170 for my cakes to come out perfectly.
