Hi all

Do you have them round for cleaning and what chores are spread out durng the week and how many hours are they in for?

ATM I have a girl that comes round once a week for 4 hrs and I am now wanting to spread it over the 5 days for light daily cleaning ie general hoovering and mopping, clean bathroom and wipe down kitchen and general tidy up daily. Then 1 day in the week do the big weekly clean.

Do you think 5 x week bit much or do you think I should have them round every other day? I dont intend to have a live in maid (not comfortable with it) maybe one day will consider a live out maid.

I normally do the daily cleaning which is a quick sweep up and spot mopping but I think its needs more than that as it so very dusty here and my apartment is big and it impossible to hoover and mop it all by myself daily and plus I have DD of 3 yrs old so its impossible to get it done when she around.

Be very grateful if anyone can share some info and advice.

TIA

Just to add: anyone has a schedule what chores their maids does over the 5 days?

Thank you H A K, the last number worked, finally, but unfortunately they have no one for the Meadows area. Back to the drawing board :) I've used Helping Hands in the past and not been v impressed and also another one whose name I've forgotten, I was so unimpressed. Am waiting for Ultra to call back. Freckles 1, which agency do you use, please?

We have a cleaner come in via an agency every Monday for 3 hours, just enough time to cover washing up, ironing and a general tidy up. Such a treat when hubby and I both work up to 10 hours a day :)

I have three hours twice a week. Most agencies have minimum number of hours per visit - our is a three hour minimum. I'd prefer an hour five days a week but not available.

@Hello.Again.Kitty Could you give me more details about your agency, please? I've googled and googled for MCS and can't find a mention of them (except yours)! I'd like someone to come in 3 x 2hrs a week, rather than 1 x 6hrs or 2 x 4hrs, so MCS sounds good to me. Thanks in advance. I've got 4 numbers for them, so see which one works! MCS Group (cleaners, babysitters, party servers, kitchen helpers) 30AED/h (2011) 043494177 043494366 0561013783 0555411510 My usual cleaner is an absolute gem of a woman, as straight as a die, honest, professional and happy. She was ill, so they sent a replacement, who was so, so sweet too - turns out she was a biology teacher in the Phillipines. As always though, just do the round with them, explaining what you want done and what you don't want done and be at peace with the fact that no one can clean quite the same way as you do. Point out any OCD-like details (mine's plug-holes) and at the end of the first couple of sessions (once they've gone) jot down any points you need tweaked, and let them know the following week. My cleaner never needs to be told twice and does a lot on her own initiative. Being a bit sneaky, I think it's actually worth getting them in for just enough time. I know that if I'm told I have 4 hours to do a job that really would only take me 2, I'd find a few extra things to do, but generally take longer to do it!

We use Best Maids. Three bedroom apartment with balcony - two hours twice a week. Every session, the maid vacuums the balcony. Vacuums and mops and dusts all the bedrooms and living room and dining room. Washes the bathroom and kitchen. At the beginning of the session, the maid will usually hang the washing in the balcony and at the end of the session, she would fold the clothes and make the pile for laundry pick-up ready. Oh, and she also collects the trash from every room and throws them out at the end of the session. Once in every nine sessions, the maid will forgo the balcony and instead give the fridge and stove a thorough cleaning. We do call them for an extra 2 hours before and after any party. This is just to help with changing sheets, taking out and putting away extra chairs, multiple loads of dishwasher, et cetera. For Laundry, we use a pick-up and drop-off service that are okay priced [we only give office wear and school wear for ironing, washing at home'> and very trustworthy [nothing misplaced, burnt or delivered later than said date'>. ETA - Best Maids is 30 AED / hour and we have to provide our own cleaning supplies. edited by em2san on 22/03/2011

We're moving up to The Villa (inshallah, fingers crossed, rubs rabbit foot!) on Monday and I would like to have someone come in and do floors/bathrooms/kitchen/ironing say once a week - how many hours would this take? The villa is 4 beds, maids and study and 5.5 bathrooms (although only 2 and downstairs loo will be used constantly!). I would need at least an hours worth of ironing (mainly the casual stuff as DH very fussy about work shirts and I'd do DS' sch uniform) would 4 hours cover this? Also if anyone up in The Villa is using a co would appreciate contact details. Thanks in advance Hi we live up there... We are just getting an agency in called sky maids ive booked them for 4 hours sunday and wenesday 8;30 am onwards... If u book two slots they charge 30 dhs and hour they only do 4 hours slots though as i need and extra 2 hour slot one morning but cant find an agency to do that.

@dessert princess, really? If I put my back into it I think I could do a good job in 4 hours if I was getting paid, is it that they just don't do it quickly? I can blitzy current 3 bed in about 2 hours if I put my mind to it but thought I'd try an agency to do it for me - perhaps I will continue to do it myself!! yes, my cleaner does our medium sized 2 bed in 2 hours. I tidy up beforehand so she's got a free run to actually clean, but she does it all. When we go on holiday for a couple of weeks, she splits the load and gives it all a proper spring clean. Basically, I'd be concerned if a "professional" cleaner takes longer to do tasks than I do. I guess it also depends what you consider to be a normal clean and a spring clean. I wouldn't expect the bathroom walls to be cleaned from top to bottom every week, for example, but some people would, and that's fine too!

Sorry, I am new to the 'maid world' but do you provide the maids with the cleaning products or do they bring them from the company? Lynn 66 - my husband takes the laundry with him for ironing in some place in Bur Dubai and they charge AED 2 which I find great value and they do a good job. The laundry near us charges AED 5 per piece. you supply everything for them. Thanks Arohadxb

I live in a one bedroom apartment and I've tried a million different agencies and it always takes them at least 3 hours to clean the apartment thoroughly and then 1 hour for the ironing. Once the girl was quicker and it was because she cut corners. edited by desertprincess on 19/03/2011

Once a week for four hours, though I would rather have an hour a day! Impossible though. We send ironing out to laundry co. Miss balamory - which company do you send your ironing to and what are the charges - is it per hour or per item. Thanks.

I get them once in 2 weeks, but with LO coming, I will ask them to come every week. I think 5 times a week is a bit too much, depends how dirty it gets or how cleany you are :) I would do twice a week

We use MCS, who don't have a min 4 hours criteria. My lovely cleaning lady comes round for 2 hours every week and I do spot sweeps/ cleans between time (occasionally). She "just" does the cleaning though, no ironing or laundry.

We use Helping Hands, once a week for the floors (including balcony) bathrooms, main living room glass inside and out on balcony, dusting and she does what ever else she finds needs doing on the day. I pay for three hours and it costs AED 75 and we leave a tip of 15 as she does a good job, nothing is broken and nothing goes missing.

I have mine twice a week for two hours each time. She comes only to clean floors though as everything else I can manage quite happily myself.
