Hi there I am new to Dubai. We moved here a couple of weeks ago and a lovely lady I met at the gym today told me I had to sign up to Expat Woman. So hello!

My husband and I are thinking of moving to the Palm. What is it like there? We've had a drive there but couldn't access the beaches so don't really know what it's like... I used to live on Bondi in Sydney so am craving the water view! And how do I find out about possible rentals there? We went to one real estate agent there, but they were very unhelpful and didn't get back to us. We are currently staying in a hotel in Dubai Marina. Thanks so much and sorry if I am asking obvious questions!

Welcome to Dubai. I have written this for those looking on the Palm again and again. It is just that I wish people had warned me when I was looking so I would rather repeat myself. Forgive me if you have read this else where. Do not move to OCEANA ON The Palm. It is deceiving because it looks great. Remember it only LOOKS good. The penthouses are not yet completed and are to be made to owner specification. That means that in every single building, all residents will have construction above them. And the building is made in such a manner that the noise vibrates and streams into every single unit and it is not habitable. The plumbing is messed up and so just this week for example, water was cut off for all buildings for 48 hours!! That means you cannot even flush the bathrooms! Imagine if you have children. The other problem is that they do not know how to operate the emergency services system. So at 4 a.m. you hear this loud screetching announcement in your apartment telling you to vacate the building immediately in three languages. It goes on for an hour before they turn it off. Then 1/2 hour later it goes off again and the whole cycle repeats. So not sure about other places on the Palm but avoid Oceana.

Hi, I've just moved to the Palm (been in Dubai a grand total of 4 weeks!) I'm on the right side of the Palm and stay in the Marina Residence apartments, I don't have view of the beach but I do have the view of the Marina which is lovely. the apartments are great with huge outdoor terrace. If you're looking for a beach view, your probably best looking at Shoreline apartments on the right side of the Palm. There could be other buildings which I'm not aware of (as I said I'm just new as well) There's an Australian bar/restaurant on the Palm called Bidi Bondi which might make you feel at home! The estate agents we used were Allsopp & Allsopp, they were really good and showed us apartments based on what we were looking for. Hope this helps

Hi there. First, welcome to Dubai. I live on the Palm - Marina Residence 2. I don't have a beach view per se, I have a view of the end of an inlet (between a frond and the Residence property) and the marina. I love it here because it's nice and quiet. There is no beach, but lovely pool areas and gyms. There are two other properties that are pretty much in demand: Tiara and Oceana. I known Tiara has beach and pool areas, not sure about Oceana. The pool areas are lovely. By design, the apartments are the same and I think they are lovely. I've only seen the 2 bedroom. I would recommend the above 3 first. There are the Shoreline Apartments (thin walls?) and Golden Mile. I believe Fairmont also has residential. Do a search on this forum and you will find alot of info and feedback. Good luck to you.
