I am taking my daughter to see Cars 2 this morning. I was thinking of taking my 16 month old son along as well. Is there any age restrictions for taking kids to cinemas.

Homeward bound, I think that might have been my toddler, I am mortified :( My DS is nearly two and he sat through the majority of Cars, but then got bored. we ended up leaving. If it was my DS, one million apologies and I will not take him to another movie in the near future.

It's incredibly inconsiderate and unnecessary to take kids of this age to the cinema. There's a time and place for everything and a 16 month old or toddler has no business being in the cinema. **LIKE** and there are many other places where babies and toddlers should stay away from. Had so many experiences where selfish parents have no consideration for others and allow their offspring to interfere with other's meals or enjoyment. Recently went for breakfast and the next table :( the whining, fussing, continual movement up and down just really ruined our time. Another day recently, my DH took clients out to a reasonably pricey (fine dining-ish) restaurant and he said it was just so frustrating and almost embarrasing - a baby continually screamed, dropped food on the floor next to them and the parents just continued to sip their wine like nothing was happening - just couldn't care less that their baby was tormenting others. In many countries I've seen children so well-behaved or you would never see them in fancy restaurants. edited by Pomegranate on 03/07/2011

maybe you should consider going for an off peak show... weekday morning shows have hardly a handful number of people in the theater... especially for a movie that's been running for more than a week or two... but pls dress him up warmly... it can get pretty cold in the theater especially if its less populated!

None of my children would have sat still when they were 2 and a half to watch a movie, my youngest the 4 yr old, goes to the movies now and enjoys them but still occasionally loses attention especially towards the end. When we were young there is no way we would have gone to the movie at that age, I understand that there are more movies for kids out now but what I don't understand is why we are in such a hurry for our kids to grow up and do things earlier than necessary. When our children were little ones my husband and I never went to the movies for a few years as we did not have a sitter to look after the kids, we would never have dreamed to take the kids with us as we knew they would disturb others around watching the movie and we would not enjoy it ourselves.

well, my 2 years and half DS loves cars, we went to cinema during the week so that he goes in with my husband and i wait for them out with my 6months... while they were in my husband asked me (r u sure u dont want to come in, they said the theatre is empty) we asked them if the baby is allowed in, she said yes... we went in, the bigger one was quite behaved and happy, thrilled at the beginning but sitting in our laps made him relax and enjoyed all of it... and the baby was quite fine as well, some laughing and squeaking but nothing else... Dear Twokids, i did BF him twice lol (i was planning to leave the theater in case any of them cried) there was around 15 people in total and all had there kids... it was quite an experience for us that we enjoyed, I havent been to cinema since more than 3 years due to kids... Off course, we went to the 2D and not 3D as the boy might have been scared from the 3D and wont wear the glasses plus he wouldnt enjoy without the glasses.. that is why less people were there... :D

In France they have a law - minimum age of 3 years - to avoid disturbing other people, and to avoid ear drum damage - the cinemas are very loud and can cause problems in those wee little ears.... l

please dont take your baby son. We went to see KungFu Panda 2 3D We are family of 5, we paid $250+ for tickets. A local family came in with a baby that cried from start to end. We couldn't hear 3 quarter of the movie. Others in the cinema shushed them so many times and they refused to take the baby out. So we paid $250 to hear a baby crying for 2 hours. Put yourselves in other people shoes.. not a very nice feeling at all.

i was ibn batuta too watching Cars with my kids and an infant sitting near us was well behaved through the first part of the movie but went quite hyper/cranky towards the latter half. Spoilt it for us...some parts of Cars were quite loud.

I dont mean to be insensitive but I think that there should be age restrictions on cinemas. We went to Ibn Battuta the other night and a local family brought a young child with them who basically screamed the whole way through the film. Its very unfair to expect a child to sit through a film quietly at that age but also it completely ruins the experience for the cinema goers who have a screaming child sitting beside them for 2 hours. I spoke to management about itafterwards and he said that they do indicate that children should not be allowed in but that his staff obviously dont observe this! Sorry - Im sure this isnt what you wanted to hear but unless your 16 month old can sit quietly for 2 hours, I would say out of consideration for others not to take your child.

I don't think I would take a 16 month old. Apart from being very noisy it can be a bit chilly so make sure you have something to put round them to keep them warm. If he isn't happy being there you will have to bring them both out and that would spoil it for your daughter.

I think your 16 month old maybe a bit frightened what with how loud the cinema is.

No age restrictions I guess but let your conscience be your guide. Is your 16 month old capable of sitting quietly and not spoiling it for other cinema patrons? If yes, go ahead and take him. If not, perhaps better to leave him at home and let others enjoy the movie.

I am also wondering whether I can sit my 6 mo old on my lap and BF if need be. The EW screening on Winnie the Pooh was great for this, but I'm not sure what the norm is at a regular session!
