Hi I am in a similar position but am a UK qualified solicitor +1yr PQE who is desperately looking for work here in Dubai. I left the UK in January on maternity leave and like it so much andreally want to stay! I just decided that is time to go back to work and would appreciate ANY help I can get. I do hope you find something quickly. But i 've heard that you need to get yourself out there meeting people face to face . so you might need to be in the UAE and then start ringing round etc I am in a similar situation , Got my law degree, completed the LPC and moved out here last year to join DH. i have been sending out my CV but not a lot of response. If anyone has got any tips or contacts . i don't mind either. TIA

It can be hard, I was in a similar position when I wanted to come back to Dubai 5 years ago, I had just graduated with my LPC but didn't want to stay in the UK as good training contracts are like gold dust unless you are an Oxbridge grad! Somehow I got into Compliance when working for the legal department of a financial institution, which I think is the best bits of legal and finance all rolled into one. I analyse the laws, regulations (sanctions, bribery, corruption etc.) stock exchange rules, communicate with regulators and financial institutions. I don't have the same problems my city lawyer friends are having now, about billing hours and meeting targets for hours billed, yawn! I was an IP legal assistant for a while, and I hated it as I found it too boring, I didn't go to law school to write basic letters, and input information into databases! So Compliance might be something worth considering as well as it typically requires a legal background, unless you are dead set on being a solicitor/lawyer. There are jobs around as I have had 2 calls in the past week asking if I am looking, so you just need to get your name and details out everywhere, which is what I did when I was looking last year. You will probably find that you need to be here first though, especially for an entry level role. Also contact law firms directly. If you will also consider AD, there are lots of law firm here too. Good luck, job hunting can be quite frustrating. :)

Emirates airlines are looking for a paralegal - check their website. You didn't mention where you are coming from. If UK and you have completed your LPC try applying to the UK firms that have offices in Dubai. Herbert Smith need a paralegal but I don't know if this is advertised. Alternatively go through legal recruitment agents who will know about jobs which are not advertised. Try Taylor Root and Hayes Legal. Good luck

I have been looking for a legal position (as a legal adviser or law consultant) for some time now but havnt been able to secure a position, I dont have years of legal experience since I only graduated a year ago, but I have 6 years of working in debt recovery/credit control, administration and customer service. I have been on every single website but still no luck at the moment, and I am thinking it is because I am not already in Dubai. Maybe it would be easier for me to just move there for a couple of months and search on the ground. Any advice? I have friends and family that live there so I wouldnt be totally on my own, I just didnt want to leave my current position without finding one first. PS: As anyone heard of the CBL International Dubai Law School? wanted to enrol on the course to get basic knowledge on UAE laws, but is it worth it? or valuable? Would you have any pointers of where i should start looking and regarding the salaries as well? Negociations? etc... Thank you

Its really tough - there is not much advertised. I have been looking for a legal job for 18 months here, on and off, with no luck - not even an acknowledgement! I think in the legal profession, a lot of the jobs are not advertised and you have to know someone. By the way, I don't have a lot of direct legal experience either but over 14 years experience in a quasi legal field.
