dont blame you for being cranky, the mindset here in the uae is archaic when it comes to pain relief and depression! Maybe because some of the doctors are from countries where depression is not recognized yet ? You have nearby countries where doctors cut off ears of anti govt people, and perform virginity tests on anti govt protestors. They are doctors who have taken the oath supposedly, but forget it for whatever reason, so i wouldnt be too confident with some of them ! Not to mention the legality of FGM in the UAE.

I am wondering what are the criterion used when deciding a medicine is a narcotic, is it something that causes addiction or is harmful or ..? edited by Arch on 08/08/2011

'For those currently on these meds, it may best to stop taking them as they are now banned substances, nevermind you have a prescription, and save yourselves the trouble of being caught "high"on them ; ) I don't get high I need it for pain relief as over the counter meds don't work. My specialist is on hols over the summer. Maybe I should just pack up and move home were it is legal to obtain pain relief ! Sorry I have my cranky pants on this morning dont blame you for being cranky, the mindset here in the uae is archaic when it comes to pain relief and depression!

it would also help if the whole list was readily available - I've really struggled to get a copy of it recently and the copy I have is from 2007-8 so I don't know if there's a later one. Every link I found to get me to a copy of it was dead, and someone on EW sent me the copy.

Can you still bring them if you have a valid prescription? Tramadol is control here and you can be prescribed it in the hospitals - I had that quite recently. Perhaps u can't get it now it's prohibited instead of controlled now ? Now it's prohibited you won't be able to bring it in, though 6 months ago my father brought it in with a doctors note etc.

There's celebrex I was put on that as I couldn't take tramadol... There are lots alternatives but will depend on the condition.
