I will need to set up a DEWA account when I arrive in Dubai for a property rented in my husbands name as he will not be in the country at the time.

Obviously I won't have my own residency visa until at least a couple of weeks after I arrive.

Am I able to use a photocopy of my husbands residency visa and set up the DEWA account?

DC

PS: He will not have time to set up the account before he leaves as he hopes to sign the rental agreement on Saturday and will be going off on a business trip for 2 months from Sunday.

According to my experience, Dewa asks for: 1. PP copy of the person holding the Tenancy Contract w/visa page 2. Letter of Authorization by the Tenant to the person actually opening the account (including the persons name, passport no) 3. Original PP + photo copy of the person opening the account 4. Photo copy of the Tenancy Contract / also the original, if requested. On occasion, I found it handy to have the final Dewa bill payment receipt by the previous tenant (can be obtained through the agent or owner) - most of the time not necessary, but if Dewa claims there is an outstanding, one is prepared. edited by crystalsindubai on 09/08/2011 edited by crystalsindubai on 09/08/2011 Great info, thanks. I'll get my DH to give me an authorisation letter then and go and set one up. At least I now know I won't be living in an apartment without electricity and water! DC

Not sure if it's a similar procedure but I closed our last DEWA account which was in my DH's name. I needed a letter of no objection from your DH, a copy of his passport and a copy of your own passport, along with all the usual docs/deposit for opening an account. HTH Sounds promising. Thanks

Are you paying the bill or your DH's employer? Can't you get someone from his office to sort it out for you? It will be us paying the bill and the apartment will be rented in our name. We don't get company provided accommodation just a housing allowance to get our own place. DC
