Are you happy in your new place called home?
What do you miss, if anything, about Dubai?

Just interested as I have left and was looking to return back to Dubai in about 4 months time but am loving being back home having found a great job, a lovely place to live and being with family and old friends.

So good to hear you are enjoying yourself moo moo hope your son is good too. We haven't had time to miss Dubai although I'm sure e all will when it's cold in the winter. We arrived back and a week later had the removal guys in and moved into our lovely nee home ee are now waiting for our container so by the bank holiday we should be totally straight and the kids will have all their toys back here. We all have new welly boots! We have been fruit picking at the fruit farm up the road, we are eating lovely fresh food from my mums garden. My little girl picked and ate an apple straight from the tree and her face said it all! We are loving being outside and enjoying the light evenings sitting in the garden with great friends. I've never drank so much champagne celebrating our return with friends. We've also had lovely picnics in the parks up the road and shared a nice bottle of White stuff with the mums while the kids re-acquaint themselves with mates from a while ago. We went to get new school uniforms from a shop that had been in the same family for 150 years and it was like 'are you being served'! The most amazing old fashioned customer service ever. I'm also loving ordering an Indian on the phone and it takes a nano second and you don't have to repeat it and you get what you order!!!!! Have had excellent service so fsr but I do mss the funny things that happen on th telephone in Dubai it was part of the charm of living there. Also my mum s staying with me at the moment and to see her face smiling t being so close now is priceless.my dh is back in Dubai at the moment and says it feels odd not to be going back to our villa but we have some truly special friends there and we are already planning to be back in the winter to escape the cold!!

I feel like you lollypop at the moment but hey, we still come back on this forum so maybe we're missing something about Dubai!!!! But like you said, it's great just walking down the road etc. I spent my first week in my new job last week and on Friday, a colleague came up to me and asked me what I would like to drink. I was just about to ask for a cup of tea and she said "we have red or white wine or beer if your prefer". My face said it all. Apparently, it's the normal practice on a Friday to have a tipple at your desk at the end of a Friday afternoon. Maybe that's why I'm loving this job!!!! :) edited by moo moo on 12/08/2011

I'm loving being back home too, moo moo. I really appreciate SO much we take for granted when we haven't been without it - like just walking down the road/hopping on a bus/getting the train. Having an alcoholic drink sitting outside (and picking up a bottle of wine from the supermarket as part of regular shopping) Dealing with officialdom where people speak the same language and you understand what is going on! (Actually not just officialdom - shops as well) and just inderstanding how things 'work' Also being back with family and old friends - you can't beat it! Right now I'm so happy to be back home (and Dubai was 'home' as well for a couple of years when I was at school, so I know the place better than many who go there to work) I occasionally get a nostalgic twitch for Dubai, but no, I wouldn't go back :)
