Definitely don't attempt to do it yourself! Pest control or some countries use the fire services to do it. They will spray it with a powder that blocks up the wasps' noses and makes them drowsy and then after a while, will dig the nest out (if it's in the ground) and bag it up to take away, spraying the area with more powder to catch the escapees. My parents had a massive one (about 75cm in diameter and 40cm deep) removed that was in the ground. The guys came during the day and the wasps never returned... but you do need to have all the nest removed.

Pest control. only company I can think of is National Pest Control, or the Municipality maybe.... I seem to remember someone saying that wasps need to be exterminated at night as if its done in the day they're not all in there and they come back and rebuild...
