Hi all, this morning was the first day at primary for DD. It's a big day for most kids. There was one poor girl who was in floods of tears, absolutely inconsoleable but sadly the teachers had no idea what her name was and hence how to contact her parents. None of her school items had her name on. It wasn't just crocodile tears, this LO was very stressed.

If it was my LO I would have liked to have been contacted so I could go back or at least advise the teachers on how to talk her down if there was a deeper issue involved - don't forget to put a name label on their stuff!!!

They were assigning name badges on entry to the classrooms but the child had somehow had hers removed. I should also add that the staff were starting to look through the photos to identify the little girl, there was no panic. All I was saying was that it would have been a two second identification process if any if her personal effects were labelled. K

Bejesus what school is this? How thick are they, there is always a process of elimination and every child should have a photo handed in on registration prior to entry, its hardly rocket science to work out a childs name. The parents should be shot as well!

Jeepers...the poor kid! Back when lil miss was in foundation at practically a brand new school in dxb, I was thrilled to see how they managed the first day/new intake. All the newbies (actually everyone, new or not) had a star on their shirt in their house/class colour, their name and their year group. Each and every child was immediately identifiable if lost in the new school and could be returned to its class...so simple, and yet so effective. Such a small piece of forethought, and sooooo much trauma saved.

I agree that parents should label their child's items. but I am also surprised at the lack of organisation at the school. I just attended a parent's orientation at my child's nursery and it was WOW. My husband and I were greeted by name and the teacher knew more than just my child's name - thanks to a 'know the child form' that we filled earlier. I was so impressed:-)

What kind of school doesnt put a name sticker on a child anyways? Lack of organisation from parents and school.

Thats horrible and so sad for the LO. I agree that the teacher should have known. Our class had name tags on as well...I was really happy with day 1 in that regard.

same here... my DD was given out a name sticker when she entered her class... and i did have a short chat with the teacher... must say... i was very pleased with the way Horizon handled their newcomers on the first day... all the LOs were escorted by their parents to the Main Hall... and from there given a short talk by the Head Teacher, introduced to some Final Year kids and even to the school toy bear! :) the parents were then allowed to escort the children to their respective classes and bid goodbye in a proper manner... i haven't received any distress calls from the school yet... and am just waiting anxiously till 1pm when i get to go and pick her up... hope that little girl isn't upset for too long... poor thing
