MinnieMouse, thats bad news...i hope mine lasts longer than that! Sands: simple slice the steak into medium size bites and mix it with a bit of oil and spices (could be anything really, s&p, cayenne, dried coriander etc) and dump it in the Tefal. Another thing I do is mushrooms in it. DH hates mushroom but I love them and the Actifry is perfect for doing one portion. I get 2/3 pieces of different types of mushrooms ( megamart has a nice selection and they really don't cost anything) and dump them in for a few minutes.

I hope you have longer luck with your Tefal Actifry than I did. Mine lasted 13 months then it burnt out. I loved the homemade chips without the deep fat fryer smell. I also bought mine at Carrefour. :( edited by MinnieMouse on 07/10/2011

I don't know anything about the Actifry per se but I *heart* Tefal and am glad you went with them! I have their wok, fry pans (small and large) and pots (small and large) and have never had a complaint. I have even loaned them to friends, just awesome!!

I personaly don't know anyone who got the Philips one yet - it got out recently. But those who got the Tefal one are very happy with it. Mom got the small one at first but then exchanged it for the bigger one - and she's glad she did. Try to experiment with different oils, mine is hazelnut. Fried chicken drumsticks are really yummy, as well as sliced beef steak.. do try it. Frozen chips don't need any oil coz they're pre-fried, taste better than fresh but more calories. Let me know how you like it.

Thanks Newbie - now I'm all confused! The friend who has one suggested the small. She has the large, and says she ends up filling it up (especially for fries) and making more than she should cause they're just so yummy. Thought the smaller size might help with portion control. But now you've got me thinking... Off to C4 in a bit, and we'll see what I'm moved to do at the moment! update... Well if I wasnt' already confused enough about the size, I got to C4 to find they also had the Philips Airfryer, at a slightly less cost than the large Actifry. Wandered over to Costa and got online to read reviews and comparisons. Plenty of people seem to favor one over the other, but pretty much in equal numbers. I was torn, but went with the Actifry (large one) in the end. Not sure I can say why. First batch of chips or in there now - 500 gm of chips with 1 Tbsp oil. And going to peruse the recipe book now... edited by RachelA on 07/10/2011

I saw it in C4 at CC a couple of days ago (didn't notice which size), I actually got mine from there few months ago! Definitely go for the bigger size, you won't regret it. There's only DH and I and sometimes i wish it were even bigger, not to mention if we have compamy...+ its not only for fries, u can cook chicken, steak etc in it. I find things cook more evenly if you don't overload it. You're going to love it :)

Thanks! I once compared the price to Amazon + shop and ship, and I don't think the difference was too bad. I'll be happy with the smaller size- we're a small family... Will check them out.

I've been contemplating getting one for a while, and was at a friends recently who was raving about hers. I had seen them last year in FFC, but they dont' have them anymore. Hoping to find on in C4 or Lulu, but if anyone has seen one for sure recently can you let me know where? Thanks!
