Has anyone recently visited the Turtle reserve south of Sur in Oman? Any recommendations on the few places to stay? We are thinking of going with adult visitors in early Feb. Is there a high/low season or will we see turtles any time of year? Appreciate any feedback.

there are 2 options for staying nearby: the visitor center itself. it is pricy and is about 3 star, very clean though, and comfortable as the turtle tours are either 9 pm to cca midnight or 4 am to cca 6, if i remember correctly. the other option is the tourist camp about 5 mins drive, very cheap and very basic accommodation, kinda shelters with basic simple bed rather. bathroom is in separate building. they give bedsheets but maybe it is a good idea to have your sleeping bag with you. a third option would be camping with your own tent, free, anywhere off the road. there are a few hotel type establishments about 25km away too, i have not tried those. good luck.

If you google 'turtle beach visitor centre Oman' you will get lots of info including trip advisor reviews. It is well worth a visit.

I'll be going again for my second time in the next couple of week ad I can't wait! Generally there are more in the summer but you can see them all year round. There are some great 'secret' beaches near Sur that friends of ours have shown us, so if you can find anyone who lives there, just ask and they'll tell you. If you look at this map, we went to a completely deserted beach near Tiwi: http://www.gulfstatesnews.com/graphics_08/GSN_world%20Maps/LG/09-omanWEB-col.gif Sorry, I can't comment on where to stay, only the turtles. Oh, try to go as close to the full moon as possible so that you get the moonlight. You can easily drive up and down along the coast and go somewhere different each day. The coastline is stunning! Since I'm going in the next couple of weeks, I could give you a report on how many turtles we see and any tips too.
