DS's going to be 2yrs soon & I'm searching the best way to make him practice for potty. Should he be out of nappies? Where to place the potty, in a bathroom or in the living room? Wait until he's three. Ditto - especially for a boy edited by Tru Blu on 15/02/2012

DS never got to use the potty, actually refused to sit on one - we just went for big toilet. For pee-pee, DS does standing up on the foot step and for #2 we use children toilet seat. Looks for the signs or try to put him right after his food or once he woke up and before bedtime. In case big toilet, it would also help if he will see someone to demonstrate how it's done. The keep momentum going, you could make the whole experience fun (in case of pee-pee) - could put cheerios so he can have a target :) Same time we stopped using pampers (only for the night till he learned to stay dry at night) and used trainer pants (you can get those at Mothercare). Once he does #1 or #2, we used to make a big deal out of it and show everyone in the household :) also rewards for sitting on the potty (toilet) and doing it, was well received by DS. Potty training is a very lengthy process with lots of patience and clean up required :) it took us nearly 6 months to full train DS. And just a word of advice, if he doesn't want it, don't force him. Leave it for sometime and come back to it later. Also, when DS was unwell (cold or tummy bug), we kept him back in pampers. Afterwards, we just had to start almost from beginning.

I am in the process of potty training my daughter who is almost 2.5 years old. We are on day 3 and I am definitely seeing signs of success! We are just keeping the potty next to her and reminding her of it occassionally. We watch he for signs (crossing her legs or holding herself) and when we do, we put her on the potty. A couple of times she has told us "pee pee" and we rush to the potty. I think a few accidents are needed in order for them to understand the feeling she gets right before she goes. Don't give up once you start even if you feel frustrated. I wanted to yesterday, but am so glad I didn't as today is much better! Good Luck!

My doctor ob also said to me that they train them at a very young age in her country...I haven't a clue how to train them at 7 months... By 2 nd daughter is 2/12 and is fully trained in the day but not at night or if she naps she ll still have accidents. First of all the pott was in the living room , so she sees it and u cold get to it quick. Most of the time she was naked as she couldn't pull her clothes off. And she soon got the hang of it. Then the next stage was knickers , she got use to pulling them up n down etc. the. When she was good at that she was fully dressed and using potty. Then I put it on the bathroom downstairs so she got use to walking to the toilet area and wiping and washing hands. The next stage was taking her on short journeys and to malls snd on walks to the playground etc with the portable potty at hand. We started training atv2 years now she's 2 1/2, and she s doing well but she's not ready at night time yet. They say when they wake up with a dry nappy ten they r ready. Good luck

Aww. Thanks. That's a wonderful compliment. It sounds like you're also doing a great job. I think it's so important to follow your baby's cues like you are doing. If he seems ready I say go for it. With EC you take the misses with the catches and just go with the flow of it all. It might take some time but you'll do great. There's a great facebook page called UAE Natural Family Living Network and there are a couple of Ec-ers on there if you want to look us all up if you have any questions or want tips or anything. :)

We practice Elimination Communication and it might be a great place for you to start. Our daughter has been using the potty since birth and been in undies since 7 months. She is mainly dry in the night since about 13 months. Now she signs to let us know when she needs to use the potty. You can start at anytime. It's not so much about training as it is about learning your child's cues and communicating with your baby. Here are some online resources: www.diaperfreebaby.com and www.bornready.co.uk. Hope that helps!
