The Inspection is heavily focused on the Arabic/Islamic and Safa School failed to comply in the 2010/11 Inspection and went from Good to Satisfactory. The KHDA also changed what they were looking for at this time so it was hard to know what was a requirement. We have now put in place Teachers who are young, fresh and interested in teaching children in a modern way (very hard to find in Dubai I have to add) which has improved things dramatically but this was only in place for September last year. This year the Inspectors came in October which hard on us as we had only just come back to school and the new Arabic/Islamic way of teaching was in it's infancy! We also have limited facilities being currently a Villa size school, this will improve dramatically in September when we open our fantastic new campus on the Meydan Road. So fingers crossed our Inspection in 2012/13 will prove that we deserve a Good rating as we are a fab school! I have worked there for 8 years and my children who are now teenagers were pupils a few years ago.

Safa school - acceptable. My kids are going to this school in September so now I am wondering why its not up to standard as the other well known schools here :(

Dont know how much to go by these ratings coz when i asked for feedback on Wellington International School I only got bad reviews and feedback as a result we dropped the idea of moving our son there. And on this list its tops :-( Don't know when you asked, Barbie doll, but if it was recently and I'd seen it, I would have told you that my daughter has been in the Sixth Form there since last September and we are very happy with the quality of her education and the environment she is in. I can't speak to the rest of the secondary school, nor the primary school, but am very impressed with the Principal and her staff in the Sixth Form. I'm pretty sure, though, that the "outstanding" rating has more to do with the standard of Arabic teaching throughout the school than anything else.

Does anyone know about gems Wellington Academy (silicon oasis) at all please? Wasn't sure if or when they would be inspected? Any info welcome! They are not on the list so no they wernt inspected. Wellington DSO expect to be inspected Sept/Nov this year. As they are a new school apparently they are not allowed to raise their fees in the first three years. I was told this by them this morning.

Reading some of the full school reports it appears the main criteria for attaining an outstanding rating is the quality and quantity of Arabic/Islamic Studies. I would read the individual school report before making any decisions based on these results. edited by angela on 07/05/2012 If quality and quantity of Arabic/Islamic studies was the main criteria for Outstanding I would think that the MOE curriculum schools would have done quite well! ;) I am just thrilled that DAA got Outstanding! The only American curriculum school to make the cut. Finally get to join the long line of UK schools. Isn't ASD exempt from compulsory Arabic and Iaslamic studies or something so it can't really be rated by this system but is probably another excellent American school? Nice to see some Indian schools too. ASD is exempt from many things such as this, it was a special "contract" signed years ago. If it wasn't for the Arabic and Islamic studies, I would bet the house that ASD would be Outstanding.

I don't think that is the case at all. It is probably more like that a lot of the "good" schools are outstanding in everything apart from the arabic/islamic studies parts, and that is the only thing holding them back. If they can get those bits sorted, they'll move into Oustanding too. That's the way I've read it. Thats why my DS's school got good instead of outstanding. Not enough Arabic according to KHDA,although I personally think there is too much already. Same with my DS's school. Not enough Arabic for the outstanding score but far too much in my eyes. I have friends from Jordan and Syria who are complaining about the Arabic lessons that their kids are forced to do. They would prefer their children to be practicing their reading with the teacher during that time. Are the kids holders or Jordanian/Syrian passports? if they hold USA or EU passports they are placed in non-native speakers section though they are native speakers. I am all for mandatory Arabic lessons, but the curriculum must be challenging and fun. No they are not holders of US/Euro passports but they speak Arabic at home and therefore the parents send them to school to learn to read and write English. they have also said that the standard of Arabic teaching is very poor compared to their home countries

What I meant was if Arabic/Islamic studies is not important to you read the reports before making the decision based purely on the outstanding/good/acceptable results. Arabic or Islamic might not be important to the individual but it is mandatory for a school to offer it. If I would be choosing a school I would not consider a school that scores bad in these subjects. I know it is mandatory otherwise I'm pretty sure that most of the BC schools wouldn't bother to do it given the standard of most of the teachers available and the complete and utter waste of schooling time that is given to the subject which would be far better utilised elsewhere. Thats why it is important to read the whole report and make a decision based on what is important to you, as I said in the first instance.

I have just worked out (albeit roughly) that in the 9 years of education my daughter has had here in Dubai (8 supposedly studying arabic) that she has spent approx 1000 hours of her school time learning arabic and I can honestly say she can read, write or speak hardly anything at all. What a complete waste of time it has been.

My dd's school for acceptable which I think is stupid in my opinion. Do you know the reason for the acceptable? Sometimes they are silly reasons, other times they are valid....it is still a bit of a mess.

My LO's school got a good rating and has asked for a fee increase. Does anyone know how much of a fee increase they can get now based on the ranking?
