you may find beef dripping in the meat section, of a good butcher ... I haven't seen it here it's the beef alternative to lard.
Seen beef dripping in "park n shop" in small plastic dishes - like what these use for coleslaw etc, found in the meat chiller display cabinet.
Park n shop have lard in the pork area in the freezer. I think it's there because its not marked halal. Just bought some yesterday
Bearing in mind lard is P I G fat; one would HOPE it's in the pork section.
Coconut oil works really well for pastry instead of lard.
The problem with commercial lard is that it's often hydrogenated to make it more stable, and hydrogenating can lead to trans fats :(
It's quite easy to render lard yourself - the easiest fat to do it from is of course the suet fat from around the kidneys but this will be hard to find. Waitrose stocks organic pork belly, maybe they have some spare fat
Thanks Ladies
Will have a look tomorrow. Wendopia thanks, I was convinced lard was beef fat. It's for pastry. I wanted to use 1/2 lard 1/2 Margerine. But may have to rethink that now. BTW any of you ladies pastry experts. Am making a steak pie will it be ok with just Marg? I'll post on the food forum as well.
Lard makes lovely pastry (I would use butter rather than marg though), my mother uses it, and it doesn't smell 'p0rky'!. But I would stay clear from beef dripping as it has a beefy flavour for pastry. My mum also used to use Trex shortening for pastry, I have seen that here.
Good luck, I make terrible pastry - hot hands (= cold heart!)

no such thing as beef lard.
lard = pork fat
tallow = beef fat
;)
What do you need it for? if its for baking, you can substitute with shortening like Crisco.
If its to cook with, goose or duck fat are excellent subs, very tasty.
Hi ladies
Can anyone tell me where I can buy lard? Is it also called shortening? Anyway please if you've seen any lard recently I'd be most grateful!
