Hello everyone. I'm seriously considering registering my son in JBS this september. It's been recommended to me by an education consultant. I've searched EW, but there wasn't many reviews, maybe because it's fairly new.
I did read a negative review by a Mrs. Laughan regarding her terrible experiance with this school and being lied to. She's not an EW member anymore, so I can't get furthur info from her.
I have an appointment for my son's assesment tomorrow, they charge a great registration fee that will be followed by a very expencive tuition.
Please if anyone has a reason for me to saty clear of this school, let me know before it's too late. Also if you have any info or experiance with this school, it will be highly appreciated.

jBS has been rated very good and has all accreditation for IB school is any one kids goes to JBS and can u guide me how’s the school and there experience .. or should I look in to it’s sister school uptown international .. according to KHDA and parent surgery it’s look decent school but if any parent give there view whose kids are in JBS will give lil clear idea

One of the parents who is no longer on the forum had an issue with the strong favortism towards the locals attending there. Maybe that was just her experience or just that class but it was enough for her. Her son accidently hurt another local child and was suddenly told to leave. This was the first year. Like I said just one persons experience-maybe that is what you were searching for??? As previous posters said- it gets to the point with schools that finding a slot is very difficult and you may not have an option...they may even be full If anyone can shed some light? In the meantime keep applying for next year

from what I searched the fees they charge at JBS is no more than most of the GEMS schools and american schools such as ASD and DAA. So I don't understand what the big fuss about the fees are? Maybe because it's a new school and parents don't trust it that much to pay such high cost for a school that's not yet well estableshed. ASD and DAA are proven schools with a great track record,JBS is not and can therefor not really justify their ridiculous school fees. Especially as their IB curriculum hasnt even been approved by the IB organisation.

Narjess, schools sadly bring out strong views from everyone. IMHO parents who are sending their kids are in the best position to provide feedback - bearing in mind that different parents are looking for different things from schools. I've heard only positive stuff from parents I know who are sending their kids to JBS - and someone I know chose JBS over ASD because of location and the fact that JBS is much cheaper, among other factors. All the best for your assessment and your final decision - I am sure you will choose what is right for your family.

Weird. I always thought of JBS as being the same as Uptown Primary, only Arabised to suit the population in Jumeira/ Barsha, but then I have second-hand info about both schools thru happy relatives and no first-hand experience. I'm just bummed that JBS doesn't offer a sibling discount, only learned this a few days ago. Heck I think the only school on Derien's list with a *proven* track record is Raffles, and that's only because the parent managing group has been running fancy private schools in Singapore for more than three generations. Even Gems is younger than that, and they only started reaching out to the non-Indian community about 8 yrs ago.

All I am saying is that there is a vast choice of schools out there that are established, well managed, offer the same prorgamme as JBS and are half the price. If you live in Jumeirah, it's a great option but apart from location, I really can't see how they justify such prices.

No not for native speakers, but for non natives I think it is great. I met one of the French teachers here last year and she was one of those amazing teachers with a love of children and a passion for her work, a real credit to the school and we came close to sending our kids there, but with three the fees were just too high for us. It doesn't matter if I say the sky is blue on this forum, there is always someone that jumps in and says it isn't......:\:

I am sorry but I strongly disagree with that. Their French programme is not for native speakers and they only have 2 x 45 minute lessons per week. JPS is the natural progression for students leaving the Chidlren Garden and most of these students are already fluent in French or native speakers yet JPS doesn't offer them a proper prgramme. My son is in year 3 in a different school and they offer a French A ( native) & B lessons 2 times a week and we pay 42K per year for the IB programme!!! We just supplment the French by speaking at home. If you look at the top of this page, there is a banner for JPS adversting for all year groups. I have a friend whose child is going into year one. She has only had good things to say about the school. To me, it sounds more academic(if that's the term!) than my school as her child does seem to get a lot of homework and assignments (at age 6) but he is doing so well at school, loves it, loves his teacher, small class sizes, great French programme, like I said, she is really happy there.

JBS took over the facilities and campus of the American School & just adopted their fee structure. The school has no track record, is WAY overpriced, and is struggling to enroll children. You only have to look at the amount of advertising they do. I can guarantee that if you called them 1 day before the first day of school, they could offer you a place in any year group..... that is not a good sign. If you want the IB program, there are lots of more established schools that offer this, including DIA etc. I would stay away until they lower the fees and build up some form of track record. <em>edited by derien on 27/06/2012</em>

hi I don't have any personal exp of JBS, but based on what I have heard (lol) I would say the following. Pros: Great location (Jumeira 1) IB curriculum (if that's what you're after) Small class sizes (for now) Cons: Little or no track record Not yet approved by IB board Very expensive An ex- neighbour of mine sent his son to JBS and told me that when worked out on an hourly basis, it worked out more expensive than Gordonstoun where Prince Charles went. Not sure I'd be willing to pay that for a school with so little track record. My ten pence worth ;-)
