Hi I'm new to the sight but wanted to give you the little advice I can offer having owned sphynx cats all my life. They are quite a needy breed, they enjoy human company. I once had a sphynx that never got along with other cats and only got worse the older she got. She was like a little guard dog. I'm sure you have done some of your own research. They need to be bathed regularity and their skin looked after. They may not leave hair around the house but if they aren't cleaned properly they will leave brown oily stains on furniture and anywhere else they lay. Having pretty big ears means that they also have to have them cleaned frequently. They are suited to the warm climate but possibly not the air conditioned villas and apartments we have here in Dubai. It might sound silly but havig a little jumper would possibly make her more friendly, as they really do suffer from the cold. They are house cats and shouldn't be let outside, they are prone to skin cancer due to the lack of fur and even when kept inside should have sun cream applied as the suns harmful rays can cause damage even through windows. My sphynx was too old to travel when I moved to Dubai and I have hunted high and low for a breeder since arriving. As this was a royal gift ? I'm sure you will be keeping hold of her, however if you need any care advice. Or if your existing cat never comes around to the idea of a companion please feel free to get in touch. I would be more than happy to help. Thank you soo much for the tips , and yes i did my own search. the one we have is quite and our old cat is the one who kept attacking the Sphynx. Things are getting better i kept them today both together and they didn't fight , they just kept their distance ,however if i do need any further advise will contact you

Having fostered all over the place and in one case having three cases of ringworm one after the other, it became a hard and fast rule to isolate for min 2 weeks before introducing the new foster/stray to the resident cats. Agreed some breeds are more antsy than others and with strays who knows what kind of abuse they have gone through on the streets.

We must be such bad cat owners..... Over the years of having numerous rescue cats, they have always just been dropped in at the deep end and allowed to get on with it. Yes there has been some hissing and spitting, but it has been more for show than anything else. We have just fostered a kitten this last week and she is now ruling the roost with our other two cats, and the two dogs, all having to accept a minature "Speedy Gonzales" taking over :) Geordie , i did the same thing when we first got the new arrival , however it went far more than just hissing and spitting. I think some cats get along with each other faster than others Could be the breed I suppose, or you've just been unlucky. Has it been neutered?

I saw a Sphynx cat in some awful pet shop of SZR the other day. He was so cute. Never thought I'd find a Sphynx cat "cute" but he had lovely pale blue eyes and stared at me for ages. Pawing the glass occasionally. Also pacing his [tiny urine filled'> enclosure to follow my gaze as I walked around the store. Beautiful little thing. Anyway, Nomad's reply seems pretty spot on. That's what I did with my two cats back home in UK and now they're the best of sleeping buddies! Separating them but introducing their scent through blankets, beds, toys, little boxes of each other gives them the message that "Look. There's another cat living here now, and you're both sharing stuff, so you might not like it but you're both just going to have to accept it!" But do it slowly, like Nomad said. A week here sitting with new cat, a week there sitting with old cat. Our cat in the UK was so upset at first, but eventually he became so curious about the new arrival that he'd sit and sleep outside the door where the new arrival was. And sometimes we'd crack open the door for them to get a very small peek/smell of each other. Yes there would be hissing, but sometimes that's just showing fear, not necessarily aggression. Soon you can conduct supervised playtimes as on the first meet a little scuffle may break out, but hopefully eventually they'll settle down. Time is your friend here. Just take as much time as you can doing this. P.S. I'm clearly no expert as I've only had to do this once (introducing new/old cats) but it worked like a charm and like I say they're so close now!

If you are prepared to spend time re introducing these two to each other it is possible for them to get along. However with your son interacting with the new arrival it will be very difficult to reverse what has already happened and to keep control of the process. When introducing a new cat into a home that already has cats : Isolate the new cat in a room alone ( a spare room or bathroom is ideal) This allows the old cat and new cat to get used to each other's smells. I used to go into the room/bathroom and sit on the floor and read letting the cat get used to me in a quiet area.It is a dedication as you have to spend loads of time with the new arrival or it will get lonely and possibly more anxious. If the poor thing has come from a pet shop it is at such a disadvantage already, taken from Mom way to early and totally frightened and confused. After a minimum of a week lock the old cat away and let the new cat out to explore the house, it will constantly smell and maybe even hiss when it smells the other cat. In the second week swop the litter boxes around and let them use each other's boxes and even introduce them to each other's sleeping cushions/ blankets. What has happened is you have totally upset the old cat and it is merely defending its territory, the new cat is a threat in it's otherwise harmonious home. If this doesn't work you may have to consider finding the new cat an alternative home. Hope it all works out, pets are not gifts, always check with parents before giving a child a pet as a gift. Thank goodness this poor wee soul landed up in such a caring household.

Hi Ladies , DS recently got a very very uncommon gift from one of his friends  ( one of the royal family ) , they gave him a Sphynx cat ! I assume he gave them an impression that its OK for him to have another pet in home !! We currently have one cat which we have adopted few months ago and they are both not getting along at all , our kitten is all jealous of the new cat and very terrified and her behavior changed. on the other hand the new cat didn't settle down yet :cry: and is aggressive when she gets nervous. i have a no pet from pet store rule ! and am a bit worried from where did they get him this cat , but as what he told me that they do have lots of them in home  and DS is getting attached to the new cat and am not sure what to do  i would really appreciate if any one has a suggestion on what to do ?? any recommendation to at least make both cats get along each other my home is a cat war zone at the moment
