Whilst I realise that there are many little ones with learning difficulties etc and the worries that this can bring, I wanted to give my experience regarding these school assessments of an older child.
A few years ago we applied for our youngest for a well known school here. She was applying for senior school, year 11 and 12 only. She had already left home having completed her first exams and came out with straight A's. Doesn't take after me with the brains, thank goodness. lol.
One school did an assessment and our DD said the test was so easy but that the printers had broken down after completing the online exam in the school so they were asked to do it again, which they all did. This school then stated that her maths was below average. One of her straight A subjects.
I was dumfounded but we never said a word as it would only embarrass her. However we decided on another school which grabbed her with open arms after an initial interview and having seen her exams results.
She spent 2 years in that school, had an amazing time and left with the highest results in the schools history. She is now studying medicine in UK.
Even these so called 'amazing schools' can get things wrong. So all I would advise anyone is go by your gut instinct. If your child is not good enough for them, then the school is not good enough for your child.bye:

Thank you for posting. We had a similar experience. Thankfully my two middle school boys were accepted by the second school we tried for. We were really let down and a bit shocked by the first rejection. My kids do well and have passing grades, certainly not straight As, I admit. They do work hard and contribute a lot to their school. I get a feeling that schools are making quite a bit of money from uninformed parents who would avoid putting a child through this process and wasting time and money if they had more information going in. For example, how about a sample of the assessment and clear outline of the test on the school website. How about the school's acceptance rate posted on KHDA. How about considering other things, such as current grades or other skills and talents other than a number from one stand alone test. How about a retake of the assessment. I think it's time this business is looked into because the more parents I speak to, the more I see we are not alone.

lovely post and I am sure it will bring comfort to a lot of mums. We had a tough time with assessments but my son is thriving now as he is in the right school. Thanks again.
