Hi the law is : The first 3 years no increase, then 5% after that. If the landlord is insisting, you need to go to the municipality, but please make sure that you have had your contract registered with them otherwise you will not be able to avail their assistance.

I also live in Ajman and my landlord said the same. The estate agent told us that if we go to the municipality and renew our tenancy contract there then he can't increase it. This was in June though. I will double check with my husband that this is correct. I think he went to the municipality!

Hi All, We live in Ajman and our 1st year apartment rental contract will expire in May 2014. I would like to know if the landlord is allowed to raise the rent after 1 year and if so by how much. My husband's colleague told him our rent won't increase for 3 years but that was before the Expo 2020 announcement. We want to know what to expect. Any input is greatly appreciated. Best regards.
