anyone have a decent rabbit vet? Want to adopt a companion for our buck, so the newbe needs to obviously be either nuetered male or speyed female. A friend has an accidental litter (long story, but she unknowingly homed a pregnant female) she needs to re home, but her vet has said that 1: the entire litter is female and 2: it's too bl00dy difficult to spey them. Their words. That can't be right, surely?

I think the OP can decide for herself what advice she takes or leaves.

gardening? weird. Our rabbit had a guinea companion for some time and he did seem happier. He's been on his own for some time and rabbits are by nature (pack is the wrong word) but live in family groups. Hmm, not sure where the common sense comment comes into it? I asked a question. If the vet in question had said it was cost/ difficulty then that would be a different question, no? Vet said was impossible to spey as too difficult. Interesting that there are vets that will spey, also interesting that Nad al sheba (which would be where we would take interesting and difficult animals) didnt seem too confident, and awful that it was stressful for the animal. Our rabbit is too old (we think) to have the cut now, and i'm reluctant to have him undergo any op that isnt absolutely essential. Looks like, much as I would like to help my friend out we'll have to look at another guinea for the family. Thanks for the help, all. I would not take an iota of notice of that statement TBH.

The buck may be over a certain age and doctors will advise against neutering an older male/female rabbit. I agree that vets in Dubai are reluctant to perform these operations and that includes the clinics listed below and they readily admit this. I only know of one female rabbit spay and it was stressful for the animal post op. The owner told me she did a very long and careful research amongst the different vets and chose nad al sheba but she wouldn't do it again as later it seemed that the dr wasn't really that experienced in rabbits. If your buck really lonely? or YOU think he is lonely? Sorry but this is hear say, i don't believe the experience (reported) by one owner can be taken as any guideline for this practice, which employs vets who treat animals worth millions which are far more complex than a rabbit spay.

The blindingly obvious answer (and cheaper) is to get your BUCK neutered, this is very simple and quick. Female rabbits can be spayed, it's a bigger operation far more costly and not rocket science. Females need to be over 6 months old. Rabbit vets, The Vet hospital or Nad al sheba or any western trained small animal vet should be able to help. The response you gained was merely a practical and cost effective one, aka common sense.
