I am making Christmas cakes for the Expat Woman Craft fair and have bought the currants, sultanas and raisins in the UK previous years and carried them back in the summer. I could only manage a few packets this year and it's not enough! Would anyone please be able bring back about 3kg of fruit (bought by myself online and delivered) in exchange for a Christmas cake? I can't buy large quantities of good quality dried fruit here, the supermarkets only sell small boxes.

Thanks mushypeas. I've not heard of the fruit and nut shops before and I don't know that area of Dubai at all or how to get there. Could you give me directions please, I would be coming from Green Community DIP. Thanks very much

Why dont you try the fruit and nut shops in along side the creek. They are really good quality and you can negotiate a good price with them !

I may be able to help. Have a friend coming next Thursday.... Have emailed to see if he has room, have already given our orders so may not have enough allowance left.

Maybe you could try shop n ship? I know you should not send food but it might work! Your welcome to use mine if you don't have one. Good luck

Thanks ladies. Have bought raisins in Carrefour but they are not the same quality as ones from UK (Greek). Currants arr so expensive here it's not worth buying them as cake plus sugarpaste and marzipan is very expensive to make. Unfortunately, people just don't want to pay the price for a hand made cake when a mass produced M&S cake is much cheaper.

Sorry I can't be of assistance with the UK flight. I would suggest having a look at Union Co-op - they do lots of items in bulk so you may get larger quantities there, or even find that their normal packs are a lot cheaper than elsewhere.

Have you tried the spice souq or big Spinneys at Motor City? They sell loose dried fruit so you can buy as much as you need.
