Hi Girls,

Is there any one of you sharing a maid/nanny with another family? Im at home with our baby full time but have no one to look after LO other than my DH when he's off (which isn't much and anyway we like to spend time together then). I could really do with having someone to look after our LO the odd night and on particular ocassions during the day. I dont know if I could justify or possible afford a full time maid but had an idea of having a part time one and splitting all the associated costs with another interested family....
Anyone already doing this or opinions please???:)

HAve a look on the Maids forum, there should be some threads there about maid agencies - you may get the info you need there.

There is a letter in 7Days today about someone who has been arrested at work for employing an illegal maid.... An agency is your best bet if you want someone part time. ETA to remove typo edited by Swiss Sandy on 13/10/2011

If you get caught employing a maid not sponsored by you or an agency then you can be liable for a fine up to AED 100,000. The maid can be jalied and deported.

And if she wasnt sponsored by you and did something criminal and you reported her you would be fined for not supplying her visa. There was something in the press last year about a maid who stole money from her employer. He reported her and was fined a huge amount as she wasnt sponsored by him

That's right. It's not sensible and it's not very fair but that's the way it is. Both the sponsor and the 'other' user would be liable for a huge fine.

I think ( am not 100% sure) that if they work for one family and are sponsored by that family they cannot work for another family. If you were caught using a maid that wasn't sponsored by you my understanding is that you would incur a large fine Do not quote me on this though

On what grounds??? Antiquated sponsorship laws. I'd like to do the same thing on a driver, but it's a bit of a risk ...

I think that would be VERY illegal.
