Are you an invitee or an inviter?

As I was sitting here this morning lamenting the fact that I had nothing to do, it occurred to me that unless I actually get off my **** and make an effort to organise a catchup/event/dinner/play date then iwould continue to sit at home.

Don't get me wrong, I do get invited to things (I'm not a complete loser :) ) but started to think about how much I initiate a gathering or more to the point do not.

So... Are you always the organiser or the invitee?

When I was in my 20s and 30s we lived in a whirl of dinner parties, drinks parties etc. These days, I much prefer to have family and close friends only over for dinner. I am not the best at arranging food for lots of people and nowadays, we'd be more inclined to arrange to meet other friends for a restuarant meal. My DH hates having a house full of people unless it's family or our best friends and their adult offspring. We are at home now and have lots of community stuff going on which we go to with friends too.

Mostly an inviter. Love having people round and cooking for them. I only clean up when other come round ;) For those of you who like me love having people around, do you sometimes get frustrated that most people seem to not ask you round to their place in return? In the beginning ie. after DD's birthday party, we were never invited to events that others were having, mainly because I don't live in the same area (I hope that this is the reason!). Now am starting to stick to people that I know and like, and we reciprocate. *Makes mental note to invite two families for long overdue playdates*. Still waiting for the adult/couple invites! It is hard without the babysitter organised...

Yes I do sound miserable, but I don't mean to be! It is just that being an invitee (to your home) adds additional stress, when you live in a toy store and can't cook! Ohhh I didn't mean you sounded miserable at [i'>all[/i'> !! You just sounded like you needed a bit of looking after by someone who is THE best at looking after new peeps [esp. ones with small fry'>. And since you're trying to find your way in Dubai, well ... ;) No offence intended. :) Thanks WaxMuch - of course not offended and thank you for sentiments!

well, I live in a zoo and a toystore, and given it's summer, the place looks like more of a tip than normal. :D Friends don't care about that though, they come for the company, the play, the laughs etc...not the food you have, or if you manage to keep your house pristine. The wine is in the fridge, so I hope whoever does turn up today brings something yummy to eat, lol~ kids'll have a blast in the pool and i think lil miss and her mum could do with some distraction. Trying to nerve self up to go pack her bag.

I used to be a very successful, often impromptu, inviter. Now with kids, and the mess that my house is often in, I am more of an invitee. Probably explains why I am on EW so regularly! Being relatively new to Dubai and still establishing a social group, I'm not sure what people like to do, other than playdates, and then it just gets too hard! Psssst! Aroha! Sounds like someone needs looking after. ;) :D

Lol, Aroha! I'm sometimes a bit of both, but as it's got hotter here I'm now mostly an invitee, as my closest friends are all smokers - but I don't smoke in the house, and it's a bit harsh to expect them to get baked outside while having a fag. Dilemma ... Meh b0gger them, sent the dirty ol' smokers to the hellhole to indulge. Maybe they'll kick the habit too. Ps... How are you doing with that Sam? Doing very well S&D, thank you *sanctimonious grin* - 99.9% smoke-free since Feb :) It's the 0.01 we have to worry about, rolly girl. :D

A bit of both. Sometimes I get included in big 'group' invitational things, but mostly, if I don't get off my behind, I don't have much of a social life. I do see status updates of various friends letting me know that they are having bubbles and swimming parties and social lives and FUN, and sometimes wonder why I'm still [sniff, sniff LOL!'> sitting at home, but that's not their problem; it's absolutely mine. I know it's absolutely a reflection on me, not them. So if I do want to be social, yes I have to initiate it but that of course means that I can choose what I want to do as well [that's what I tell myself anyway!!'>. ;) The heat doesn't help either [I'm MUCH more social in the winter months'>. Nothing better -- to my mind -- than cosying up with the A/C as opposed to 'having to' go out into that awful 45C humidity! :D
