That's brilliant info, thanks so much Pinks. I wish I'd posted before I booked - lol! Oh well lesson learnt.
In this instance I guess I'll wait until 24hrs before we fly and call them to see if there's any availability to upgrade.
Thanks again!
I've been buying World Traveller Plus and upgrading to Business using miles each time I fly for the last couple of years (DXB - LHR), and there definitely are some tricks. Firstly, if you want to upgrade at the time of buying online, you have to book way, way in advance, as they dont have many seats allocated for this. Don't waste your money paying to choose your seats at time of booking - if you're going to upgrade to business later, there's no point. Even if I've been in economy, I check in online 24 hours before and have always been able to get the seats that I want (i.e. front row!). Remember, you may be able to upgrade one of the legs when you book, even if you can't do both, and I've never had to buy the most expensive flexi-fares to do this. If you havent been able to upgrade at time of booking, then call BA the day before you fly and ask if there's availability to upgrade using points. Normally works, as they want to fill any empty seats further up the plane. With BA you can also buy purely with miles, but this also goves you the option to use soem miles and some cash in differing proportions - worth checking out. Hope that helps!
ETA it's 20,000 to upgrade one cabin level from DXB to the UK

Thx Jetset.....we paid the full fare for premium economy .+ an extra 300 dhs to choose our seats in prem economy .........& I did so on the basis I hoped to then upgrade ..........sigh .. we'll see, there maybe tears at the gate - LoL
But thanks for your input - appreciated x
Am not too savvy with BA but I know from last years experience that to upgrade with points you can't book the cheapest fare... it has to be the flexi fare which allows upgrades with points... hope this helps!
Hey, hoping there may be someone BA savvie here that can advise?
Have spent years collecting 100k points flying mostly long haul economy, now figure with 100k points in hand we can for once (ie the FIRST TIME EVER) upgrade our flights!!
But no, BA site will not allow.
My first question to any that may know, is... approx, how many points are required to upgrade from BA World Traveller Plus to Club?
Second question is: why does the BA site simply send me an error message when trying to upgrade our flights??
If BA told me I don’t have enough points then fair enough .. but no, just a plain old error message asking me to go back to my original booking.
I will call them over the weekend, but just wonder if there is something really simple that I am missing in terms of upgrades!! ??
