Ladies, thank you for your input. Our elder daughter took lessons 4 years ago with Bel Hasa. Our concern was that whilst the standard of instruction was sufficient to pass the test successfully it did not come close to equipping her for the everyday challenges of driving here - or anywhere else for that matter. I had hoped over time things would have changed, but from what you tell me nothing has!

after my final lesson the assessment test couldn't be booked for three weeks One can avoid this and also choose class timings to suit (among a few other small conveniences) with VIP cla$$e$.

Don't go with Galadari. Shocking. I started this process in April, and won't finish my lessons til mid November as they keep canceling them..... Not impressed.

Our 18 yr old DD recently learnt and passed first time with Emirates Driving Institute. They were OK, BUT DH did take DD out to empty building sites in Barsha 1 on a Friday for lessons and she has also had extras with him since passing her test to be allowed to drive at night and on SZR for example. We've gradually given her more freedom with the car and have been quite controlling in a sensible way with her to start with, rather than just let her loose which seems to be the case with most teens she knows. There are things they did not teach/show her, eg. windscreen wipers, headlights etc so it's no wonder that many people here do not use these when the weather is bad! Last night she chauffeured us to dinner for the first time, which was lovely!

that's an oxymoron if ever there was ....... Belhasa are ok but none of the schools here are good - maybe get them to have real lessons over the summer in your home country. edited by ishehere on 11/08/2012

I would also recommend Belhasa. They're not perfect but my experience was positive. I also know ppl who learned at Dubai Driving Center and Al Ahli, and based on what they said the standards there appear a good bit lower.
