My BIL wants to buy my sister a Tag Heuer watch for her 30th and thought they might be cheaper here. Can anyone recommend a good place to go and price one up? Thanks :).

DH got me one on our first anniversary from dubai mall a few months back. The service was excellent, but their credit card machine wasn't working so we had to use our debit card and missed out on a lot of points. But I am very sure the prices are higher in Dubai than in the US or Europe. Some shops (for high end items) don't like to accept credit cards as they lose a further 2% in charges. Bought some earrings at GD Park and it was a cash only policy for this reason. edited by Pomegranate on 24/09/2011 Debit and credit cards use the SAME machine.... there is no such thing as a debit card only machine :) Absolutely - that's why the previous poster had to use her debit card instead of credit card and they gave the credit card machine broken excuse - they didn't want to lose an extra 2% off their commission ;) I absolutely HATE it when people do this - ie lie, why can't they be friggin' honest about it!!!

But well, that was their excuse. <em>edited by Curls on 24/09/2011</em>

I've always found Burjaman to be a good place, have always been able to get better discounts from shops there rather than Dubai Mall or MOE. It may be because it is less touristy? Bought a Choppard watch there, maximum discount in Dubai Mall and MOE was 10% got over 20% in Burjaman! Dont know where you live but the Man, Mike, in the bag shop in Green Community Market can also get new watches at good prices

Cheaper than the UK. DH was looking at a Rolex and I think it worked out a good few pounds cheaper here than there, but that was last year. The one my BIL is looking at is GBP990 but the store in the UK will give him 10% discount.

With the Euro dropping and tax rebate, probably Europe would be cheaper - if your sister is there of course!

Also check Dubai duty free - prices maybe better. I got mine from there.

Thanks, that sounds like a good place to start. He's given me the model number of the one he wants so I'm hoping this will be a standard international number they'll recognise!

I think there is a Tag Heuer shop in Dubai Mall, they should have the full range, although they might not be the cheapest, might give you a place to start to see the choices. Not sure of any other ones.
