A colleague of mine visiting from UK wants to go to Karama market/shopping centre to get some handbags. (They've heard about it through others in the office.)

Does anyone have an recommendations of a place that sells good quality handbags that won't fall about within a month of getting back to UK please?

TIA

Quality is variable but I've got a great chanel and a lovely chloe clutch. I would avoid anything LV though. In my experience is that a lot of shops have good and bad quality, and you get more of a discount if you buy 2+ pieces. Only bad experience I had was with a guy called Michael, who was great until the bag I got fell apart in a day and was reluctant to do a refund! Young British Indian with an East London accent, big shop (including some OK stuff, so pick carefully) Most of the bags are mare in China and there was a big raid a couple of months ago, hundreds of thousands of bags were seized. So wouldn't surprise me if there was less choice now I went last week. All the shops were open and so much choice Michael isnt the same one at greeneye he isnt an Indian. I will keep my eye out for him though!

How much approx would u pay there for a handbag. Depends on the brand, material and size....I got a Mulberry bag for 200dhs and then a Hermes Birkin for 550dhs (which started at 800dhs) You definitely need to be persistant when trying to get the price reduced because they will reduce it eventually!

I go to a guy called Ali who works from a shop called Sina...always good quality, he gives me reasonable prices because I always send friends, family, etc.

How much approx would u pay there for a handbag. It really varies J! All I know is a bag that they start off with a price of say AE600 can be priced down to about AE380-360! I have a Caroline Herera bought there for similar price...looks nearly exactly like the shop's,lasts and wears beautifully. You have to look around for 'quality' though...some bags can really REALLY look fake!...though all are!!

Is that not an oxymoron - Quality and Karama? Yes and No Ayzzy...bought sunglasses there that lasted a month and bags there that I wear very regularly and they are in excellent condition. My nephew's 'Mont Blanc' watch that he bought there a few years ago is still in prefect working condition and looks like the real thing!! :)

Thanks GG. I'll head up their this afternoon to see what we can find. I imagine most of the shops will be open in the afternoon rather than split shift. Hope so anyway otherwise it'll be a totally wasted journey!

I have to Karama been a couple of times in the last couple of weeks with visitors. All street-front showrooms are open, but a lot of the other showrooms were closed. Apart from less volume of goods to look through, the guys on the street-front showrooms seem to be less willing to negotiate on price. But both sets of visitors that I have taken have been happy with their purchases at the end of the day. I think the shops pretty much offer the same in quality. Perhaps some shops may have a better selection of current models, or a better variety of goods.

I hear that that things are a bit tight there right now and that all shops are not opening ( if you get my meaning)- just for your info. Someone I know was just there . Pity. Do you also know if they are open in the afternoon or if they are split shift (morning/eve only)? I've never been myself so don't know much about it - am just putting Street 18b in my satnav and hoping to find it!
