Gave my second road test today not even 1 mistake on my part and failed again, when i speak to the other ladies around its their 6th,7th...test yet they keep on failing,on the day wen i gave my first test there were 45 of us,43 of them failed and 2 of them passed it was their fifth test...and what i dont understand is there were 3 people in my car and she made me drive for 2 min another lady for 7 min and the 3rd one for 20 min and all three of us were given same no of mistakes...we are not dumb to see a woman is not capable of making 25 mistakes in 2 min a majority of which did not happen when i didnt drive in a uturn how can i make a mistake in a u-turn,no matter u drive or not drive u end up getting standard number of mistakes, today was my second test 25 of them were there all failed, paid 6500 AED already and i am pregnant dont know what to do...i am so frustrated...the instructors at belhasa are so rude...any of you planning to join driving school dont opt for belhasa and emirates they are only there to make money....when they are failing people everyday like this it is injustice 100's of people are failing, this is oppression,u drive or dont drive it doesnt matter to them, they come prepared to fail you...its nonsense.u fail u pay RTA road test fee they are happy and u are supposed to take 6 classes so driving school is happy...i wonder if they are trying to bring out perfect drivers, how come there are reckless drivers on the road...today morning i nearly escaped from an accident that too by a policeman and my cab driver is telling me mam luk he is a policeman and he does not know how to drive...

Just wanted to add here - if you look very carefully and speak to the right people - Belhasa and Emirates are one and the same company. We have had our fair share of driving school blues...

This is the case with all Driving Schools not only Belhasa, at least 2 - 3 tests before you pass and it is so frustrating, i did mine with Belhasa about 5 years ago had to do 3 tests before i passed and i understand it has gotten even worse now.... :(

They do not fail you on purpose. I did mine in 2007 with Belhasa and read a lot of bad stuff on the internet about how they fail you on purpose etc. None of it was true in my case. I passed first time. My instructor (a guy) was the best instructor i could have had. One of the girls in the car I was tested in was failed as she nearly killed us when it was her turn to drive . She came out of the car and cried for a long time saying she has done the tests so many times and each time they failed her on purpose. Am not sure if she was unable to recognize that she nearly killed us or if she was just in denial.

Oh comon, the test is done by RTA examiners who do not work for the driving school. I passed my test first go as did 2 other ladies in my car, only one lady failed and she was french and failed to stop before entering a roundabout. My Mock exam (the one that you do before going for real test) the driving by 2 of the ladies was so bad I was scared for my life!! People get failed for a reason. You need to ask the examiner why she failed you and what you should practice. You are only allowed a certain number of mistakes. 40 lessons is by law here I believe, each is half an hour so if you have 2 at a time its only 20 lessons. I did mine in blocks of 4 so really didnt take long at all. edited by Purple on 23/08/2012

I learnt to drive in Dubai with EDI and I managed to pass in my first go, I had a total of three instructors, my first one i was comfortable with but unfortunately due to personal reasons I had to stop my classes and by the time I came back my instructor had gone for her daughters wedding. The second one was always moody, she didn't care about my driving just kept on complaining about how I would never pass and if I asked her to show me how to do it she wouldn't listen, I then changed my instructor and she was perfect, she had patience and was understanding (I learnt to drive in a manual car) gave me tips and not only on how to drive in the UAE but also how to drive in UK (that's where I am from and am planning to commence my further eductation) was encouraging and finally when my test day came I passed with no mistakes. I did have an advantage, as I was learning in manual it was me and the instructor only in the car I had no other passengers/applicants with me. The tests are now done by RTA officers, however there's always one and no matter how good you drive she will fail you, it happened to two ladies I spoke to and another tip dont do your test in Ramadan unless if you do it early in the morning... Best of luck to any who are doing their test.

I had to ask for a change of instructor. The earlier one, was a filipina lady would constantly be on call and busy munching something or the other and waving to other male instructors whom we met on the road. It was me who had to pester her with questions about what to do in a particular scenario. She would constantly compliment on my driving and suggest that if I wanted I could bunk the classes and she would sign that I had attended the pre-requisite number of classes. I opted for a change and was issued a Pakistani lady. And Boy !! She was a great teacher !! I was quite happy with her guidance.

I am an Indian. Took only 20 classes because I had an existing 8 year old Driving License of India. And I cleared it in the First Go !! I went to Al Ahli. If the examiners are prejudiced then the same should happen at all driving schools. Why would they limit their prejudice to 2-3 driving schools? were u satisfied with al ahli?? how were the instructors?

so really which school is better... i have to take classes and based on what i have asked other ppl, they all are really the same. one lady told me u need to 'please' the instructor by giving her gifts, then only she will teach driving properly.

There's something desperately wrong if that number of people are failing on a regular basis. What does that say about the school? I'd go somewhere else if I were you and bring it to the attention of the RTA.

There was this Doc who today gave her 7th test after taking a break for 6 months she was utterly frustrated, and today again after 6 months she comes and she fails, u can call it bad luck if its happening to a couple of them what can we say for 98% of them who is going thru this...

Soniaq and Chocos are you basically saying that you are being failed because you are Indian? Luckily I have a transferable licence from the UK, never did anything here and no I'm not Indian. But it is a known factor that nationality plays a major part in it. They'll basically make anyone from the subcontinent do more lessons and fail them on a regular basis. Whereas locals and western expats don't have that issue. And I don't buy the new drivers need 40 lessons. I passed my test in the UK after only 16 lessons! edited by Chocs01 on 07/02/2011

They were new drivers hence 40 lessons, can't comment on nationalities as they are all different 1 as someone put it light skinned and the others not.

I find that totally ridiculous. I'm pretty sure that in no other country is there a mandatory number of classes that needs to be taken. You take the test when your instructor thinks you're ready. That could be from 5 lessons to however many. But 40?

@ starsouthern :which driving school is it belhasa???i also see a lot of partiality, they look for your nationality...and one of the instructors said u can be sure to pass if u are a western expat...when asked the reason she is saying coz they are fair skinned gosh is this the criteria for passing a road test... Well I wasn't going to ask but seeing as you brought it up, I'd be interested to know the nationalities of the friends of Southernstar who all passed first time.

My sister and 4 of her friends all passed first go after doing their 40 lessons. They were tested by RTA people all in the last year. I have another friend sitting the test this week. edited by starsouthern on 07/02/2011 Forty lessons!!!!!! Who on earth takes forty lessons for a driving test? Is that the number required before you can even apply for it? Most people can pass after around 15.

seriously instructors are not allowed to use mobiles or eat when they are teaching us...my instructors put a viel kind of thing and starts eating as soon as i start the car and says dont mind o.k,and when she went on leav ei got another one who keeps on playing with her mobile.when i did my assesment test they said my driving is good...and now i am here each time with paper int which the timing of tests are also put wrong, even if they make u drive for 2 min they put 8 to 10 min of driving and what all nonsense sometimes i think why they bother to write it they can just save time take a photocopy and give it to everybody if every single person irrespective of where you drive makes same mistakes...and one of the ladies in my car she was 5 months pregnant and she went and spoke to the examiner and guess what she is saying all three of u made same mistakes...how can she say tat when the 3 rd lady in my car did not stop at a stop signal,i did not make tat mistake infact i dint make any mistake and i thought i would pass...

It's well known that they have quotas and will only pass so many people at a time. Their only object is to make money. I'd make a complaint if I were you. To be honest, seeing the way some of their instructors drive is appalling.
