Can anybody please recommend a company who will give us buildings insurance for a small house in the UK which will be let out to tenants? I've been looking on the internet but it's a bit mind-boggling and I need to sort this out quite quickly!

Many thanks.

If you are renting out through an agency check with them - ours had a super deal as they arrange many of these for their landlords so get bulk discounts. Same too for utilities maintenance contracts etc with eg British Gas - worth asking what the agency can offer you.

I would def have landlord insurance to cover you if the rent isn't paid, we go caught out twice (I know, I know) with bad tenants who ruined our house and hadn't paid the rent for months - the agents were useless - I don't know why we paid a monthly fee to them to "manage" the tenancy. We also tried to pursue the debtors through debt collection agencies but never got a penny back................. Not trying to put a damper on it for you, just wanting to point out the error of our ways.

Alan Boswell, google them. They are excellent, very very reasonably priced, extremely quick and efficent and even give a very personal service. When my mother fogot to insure her rented house they sent me an email asking for my assistance to remind her as they had my details from setting up her policy. Basically they insured the house until I could get a payment to them. Awesome service, recomeded by Martins Money Saving Expert website.

We found the "landlords insurance very expensive and some of the aspects of the cover were not necessary. I did alot of researching and was getting no where. Our accountants had a property guy who recommended someone to us who has been brilliant. It was also suggested to me that I use the terminology " insurance for a house that will be tenanted" rather than asking for landlords insurance. My email is lesley.costasatyahoo.co.uk if you want to get in touch perhaps our contact may be useful to you. Our house is in central london.

Double check with the National Farmers Union, NFU mutual, they cover all sorts of insurance and prices are excellent.

If it's your own residence in the UK and you alreadt have buildings insurance, then you just tell the company you are letting it to tenants and there will be a small premium added. If it's always been a rented property than you can get a landlord's policy. we are with LV.

We have ours through simple landlords insurance I found them online, you do need different insurance if you are letting your house, I dont think the sort you have if you are living there will cover rentals, however its cheap enough!!

Direct Line do. Although you can use the Money Supermarket Website to get comparable companies, I think most companies offer this type of insurance. Also worth having a small amount to cover contents such as flooring etc... even if you don't have any of your own furniture in it.

We use Direct Line insurance, we took it out in the UK before coming out to Dubai though.
