Hi,
Has anyone had any experience of bowel surgery in Dubai? My husband has just been told he has a malignant polyp in the bowel and needs surgery. He is been given the choice of American Hospital or City Hospital? Which one is best? Anyone knows a good surgeon ? I have seen some reviews on the subject but some are dated 2010.
Thank you

First of all Thank You ExpatWoman. When I didnt know where to go I opened the forum and here I found recommendations for doctors. It is through Expat Wowan that we found Dr. Faisel Ikram who saved my husband's life. Thank you to Dr Faisel Ikram for performing the colon surgery on my husband. The tumour was caught in the very early stage and my husband did not need any chemotherapy or other post-operative treatment. He is cured thanks to Dr Faisel. I would recommend both Dr Faisel Ikram and the City Hospital for all the attention received and the nice/efficient staff. We are all very happy now.

Hi, if you do consider returning to UK then I can highly recommend St Marks hospital in London which specialises in bowel surgeries.

I have been to see Dr Mazin Aljibiri at the Wellcare Clinic Dubai Mall after seeing him recommended on here, he is UK trained and very experienced. Whilst I didn't need surgery I may need to have a colonoscopy and would definitely go back to see him. http://www.mediclinic.ae/DoctorDetails.aspx?drid=447

please please go and see Dr Jay Mathias at Dubai London Clinic Jumeirah - he operates out of Welcare, Garhoud. my husband was (mis) diagnosed - and subsequently died of bowel cancer here (after several surgeries here and in the UK) and Dr Mathias was the ONLY one here i would even contemplate using. i cannot recommend him enough. good luck to you both

Hi mum2girls, He cannot travel because of the risk of bleeding according to his doctor.I would have preferred him to travel to the UK for surgery. I am still insisting that perhaps it is better the risk of travel. He has an appointment with Dr Faisel Ikram at Dubai City Hospital today. I have heard one good review. But I am also quite concerned as you say to have major surgery in Dubai as it seems that most people travel to Europe or US for surgery. I have not heard those dreadful stories but perhaps it is better than I dont hear them now. Thanks for your advise.

Can he have the surgery done in Europe or the U.s? I have heard so many dreadful stories of surgeries gone wrong here that' I would try to avoid it, that being said, I have had better experience at the American Hospital than at City, but never had surgery at either of them, Is your husband having a colon re-section? Or only having the polyp removed?
