well there wouldn't be so much issue if the press hadn't published that it is illegal for companies to make nonmuslims work more than 6 hrs during ramadan... now everyone feels like they have a right to wind up early... link to the article... http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/employment/non-muslim-employees-entitled-to-work-six-hours-during-ramadan-1.844505 the press does that every year. there is a good chance that if it was a SME they could take some action. But being a government entity, there is no chance any action will be taken...

My DH is only working 6 hours per day now, but his work colleague who is on another job hasnt had his hours reduced. Rocking the boat and complaining will go against you, I suppose it all depends if you are working outdoors or office based. Private sector is so different to Public. Each and every public holiday here my DH has had to work!!!! As he looks at it, "It is what it is".

In terms of work timings, the main issue is that Dubai follows a 48 hour work week i.e 8 hours a day 6 days a week. The reduction of 2 hours works across the whole work week- the law is clear on this. So if any of you get a five day work week- the 36 hours is divided by 5 days. Managers ( as per their visa- because companies pay an extra fee for manager's visa's every year at the time of renewal) have to work as much as required to complete their work. Overtime applies mainly for lower level staff without manager designation. All of this is as writeen in the actual labour law....

I'm interested as well. After all, I know my DH [i'>still[/i'> has to get his people to complete their work, he [i'>still[/i'> has to front up to do a full day's work -- as do they -- plus their major project [i'>still[/i'> has to be completed on time [and no excuses for non-completion will be tolerated'> ... And he works for the Government. Go figure. :(

very interested to see what happens where this is concerned, please keep us updated. i read another post with interest - the one which says if you work more than the legal six hours you are entitled to overtime. if this was the case after four ramadans i would be a millionaire!

A quick search on Google -- took seconds -- reveals that there is a toll free number for complaints about work conditions [and other related topics'>. Telephone 800-665 May I dare ask how the company about which you wish to complain is contravening the Ramadan rules?
