Whether she returns or not is immaterial... she is due that money whether she gets it now to take on holiday with her or at the end of April it makes no difference you must still pay it to her.
I would give her her money, so she has some extra cash whilst on holiday, but make it clear to her that it means she will only get paid again at the end of May, there will be no money at th end of April. Make her sign her agreement to this.
My maid took half her money with her and left the other half for her return so that she would have some money to help her through till her next pay day.
I would work this one out in accordance to how the majority of people get paid for holidays ie you have a yearly salary and you get paid monthly. You have your holiday days paid for in the monthly payment. ie you get paid at the end of the month, regardless if you took holidays or not. Some companies pay 2 months up front if you have a month off, but then you dont get paid at the end of the month as you have already had that pay. You just get the pay early if you need it for holidays. You should pay your maid 12 times per year. However, if they dont go on holiday, then you pay them an extra month, as they are working that month instead of taking holidays, together with the cost of the flight. This year our maid did not want to go home so that is exactly what we did. I think if you want to give her extra as a bonus, then give her this before her hols, so that she has a nice bit extra to go home with. Everyone is different, with different ways of working, so its about what suits you best and keeping within the rules of employing a maid.
We didnt agree anything regards the money we just gave it to her becasue she asked and has never before asked for money we wanted to help her,
This year i m concerned, i have spoken to other colleagues and they said the additional money is paid to her when she returns i.e she gets a salary in April even though she has been away on holiday just like any normal employer pays your holiday salary the following month from when you took your leave?

Regarding the UAE dirhams 2,000: what was your agreement on that? Is it a giflt, an advance?
You should check the provisions of her contract. I don't understand why she would be entitled only to a flight home only one time per 2 years. I heard that only UAE citizens are authorized to give their maids one flight home per 2 years.
This subject has already been discussed in a recent post in the maid part of the forum.
According to the maids contract, a maid is entitled after having completed 12 months to (i) 30 days holidays, (ii) one ticket home, and (iii) one-month salary. She can prefer being paid in cash the airline ticket.
So, your maid is not entitled to 2-month salary for her holidays. You can do it if you want to but it's a gift. I think if she completed her one-year contract, then it's better to give her at the same time the one-month salary (corresponding to the paid holidays) plus her ticket.
Regarding the gratuity, in my understanding, it's something which has to be paid at the termination of the employment contract, its amount depends on the lenght of the contract of the maid. Anyway, I am not sure that the maids are entitled to gratuity, maybe it should be checked with the Ministry of Labor when you terminate her contract.
I am not sure what you do but my maid goes home for a month every year and takes with her a double salary for that month - that is to say a 13th months salary which is her gratuity. Maybe this is what your maid is asking for?
Maid has been with us since 2009, in 2010 she approached us and asked for money for her DS OJT we gave her 2000 AED towards this.
I understood that for every 2 years she is in our employment we pay for a flight home for her, in effect this is what I understood
For example she has just returned home for month in March 2011
AED 3000 Flight
AED 1800 Salary
So know she is asking for holiday pay, however, she should get this when she returns in April Salary or else she would have no money in April am I correct?
Otherwise, she will get AED 3600 Salary plus the months holiday
My company doesn’t pay me the holiday pay in advance and then give me additional money the month I return for a month of work I have not done
