Hi, My hyoer active GSD just got diagnosed with the rupture; vets say surgery is the only option but can't seem to provide us immediate date as 2 vets are required for the tricky surgery. Would any of you have any experience with any vets abt this surgery?? am scared for my baby....

thanks ladies... vet recommends conservative meds and rest for first 2 weeks as this rescued poohc of mine already has deformed hip bones and gait..he says furthere surgery trauma shud be best avoided.... break my heart to see him slowing down..he is 8 yrs old and most vivacious otherwise. On Rimadyl he is vomitting atleast once a day....

Sorry to hear about your dog's injury. Mine had a cruciate rupture when he was aged about 11. He was operated on by Dr Malcolm, now at Al Safa, and he made a perfect recovery with no later problems. I was warned that there was a high chance of the other back leg suffering the same thing, as it would be taking all the pressure during healing, but he was fine and went on to live another 5 active years. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your boy's injuries :( Have a look at this website, it might put your mind at ease. Unfortunately there is quite a long healing process/cage rest but surgery does sound like the best option. http://dogs.about.com/od/caninediseases/p/cruciate.htm
