Just wondering if anyone has used Curves in the past in their home country (don't think it is available in Dubai) - I am now in Canada, but still come on here every day to check out what you are all up to!! (I like Canada, but really, really miss Dubai).

Anyway, have googled and read some reviews on it, but they are very mixed (and one never knows how real they are). So wondering if any of you ladies have been through their exercise programme and what you thought of it.

I am mid-50's and never been into the gym scene; at intimidates me like crazy. The most I do is half-hour walk a day. But Curves appealed to me as it is all women and it seems not to strenuous for a beginner - at least until I could build up a fitness level. Thought I would try it for 3 months to see how I go. Would like to get rid of the middle-age spread tummy and also help with mobility in general.

But - because it seems not too difficult, wondering if it will make any difference at all - but then I guess some exercise is better than none at all.

So..... can anyone share their opinion if you have tried it. (Beebers, you seem very knowlegable on the helath & fitness issues, if you read this - any opinon?)

Many thanks in advance.

I think the main thing for you snugglepot is to find something fun that you enjoy doing. Give it a go, if you make friends and find a few 'gym buddies' then that always helps. :)

Thanks Chocs01 - ummm I am contemplating this as I know I wouldn't be motivated enough to keep up exercise by myself at home - that's why I thought going to something structured would be a good idea. (Also thought it would be a good way of meeting new people as well - no EW coffee mornings here to help with that!) Guess I will try it if only to get my confidence up in being in a "gym" type setting using all the different type of machines, then maybe I can move onto something more challenging. They apparently have Zumba-type classes a couple of times a week as well, so would like to try that also if I can keep up with it. Anyway, thanks for your input.

If I can jump in. I've never heard of them, but it seems similar to other circuit type workouts. You know you can have a really good workout in a 2 metre square area of your own home, using only your own body weight. You've indentified a goal, which is a good thing, at least you know what you want to achieve. You shouldn't think about things being too easy, if you find them easy, then make them harder, more weight, more reps, more time - the body does not modify or adapt unless you put it into overload. The tummy area is always the hardest to deal with, as that's where we women mostly store our fat reserves and this is the hardest energy source to get the body to use when working out, which is why a healthy diet really comes in to play as well. edited by Chocs01 on 26/03/2012
