you were paid more money?

As in higher base than the norm for your position?

I'm honestly doing my best at my job and I don't think I can do better than what I'm doing now. But a pay rise, I think, no matter how I deny it, would affect my motivation, my perspective, and thus my performance.

I don't get this.. Are you saying that you don't work to the best of your ability because you feel you aren't paid enough to ? Although you could work harder or do a better job, you choose not to ?? Edited for cr@p punctuation lol edited by Sue62 on 12/11/2011 BINGO! That is exactly my situation. I see every day how the owners of the company make shiploads of money that they don't share with employees or re-invest in the company to provide a better quality to the customers. All the money goes straight to their pockets when we (employees) are lacking necessary things to deliver our job properly. How bother then? But, to be honest, me in this job not doing 100% is more than enough for them. Why am I still there? Because I need the money and I don't think in my sector UAE will offer me anything better.

you were paid more money? As in higher base than the norm for your position? Then surely you would move up the ladder and look for a position at the next level within your field?

I don't think more money in a salary makes a dfference to performance. Now a performance related bonus however, would definitely make people improve the way they work. I agree with performance based bonuses, however how do you incorporate performance based bonuses for jobs such as a Maid? Or like a job that can't be measured based on sales targets? I think if people are rewarded for a good job done they'll continue to do a good job, but if you just pay someone more hopping they'll improve... unlikely

IMHO performance shouldn't be directly tied up to the money you get. you should get a satisfaction from the job you are doing, feeling that you have accomplished something and you gave 100% of yourself doing it. Of course, it would be good if you get bonus or pay raise after that

I feel I already do a really good job in my current role, but I would love to be paid more! Don't think it could make me do a better job per say. It's 'per se' And ??? Just pointing out the spelling mistake so she doesn't make it again. Might affect her salary next time that's all!! Thanks, luckily my job doesn't depend on spelling "per se"

Salary boosts morale and companies are known to pay employees above and certain key employees high above the norm as part of their retainment strategies. To answer your question, yes I would do a better job should the increase come with proper recognition too. However, a great salary should be supported by commitment, respect, loyalty and more by both the employee and the employer. Recognition and not salary top the lists of what employees want. That said, if an employee is not working to their full potential under favourable working circumstances and earning the norm salary, no salary increase will change performance. With regard to restructuring/retrenchment, those are the first I let go as they might look like solid workers, but they are not. K3 [i'>skills[/i'> refer to "how to" questions. You want to add [i'>knowledge[/i'> answering the "what is" questions, [i'>talent[/i'> indicating certain recurring patterns of thought, feelings and behavior that can be productively applied and lastly the [i'>strengths[/i'> of an employee. Collectively these are the "competencies" and is used in the selection, compensation, evaluation, and development of individuals :) edited by hollyhook on 12/11/2011

Definitely not! I would get a feeling of appreciation and would maybe "run quicker" for some time. What a payraise cannot do is to improve skills :) Think of your maid - if you'd pay her say, twice more - do you really honestly think she would do a better job? Her cooking skills probably will not get better. And she may smile to you twice as much for couple of months but then what? She Would get used to the new salary and in some time would do exactly the same job as six months ago. If no other means are used to make her perform on a different level. To my memory (probably read it from somewhere) it takes 3-5 months to get used to the added sum... I believe in business more money only retains good people, they anyways work hard and if somebody says give me more I'll do a better job I peg to doubt :) Losing them is a possibility then tho... edited by K3 on 12/11/2011

Definitely, I only work what I am paid for. If they will pay me I would be more stimulated (stimulation grows proportionally to the pay rise!)
