I have a tree that the bark is full of scratches at the bottom. Since I don't know if the scratches were made by the previous tenant's pet, or if its from "something" roaming at night, I protected it with 3 empty bottles of water, cut open and put around the trunk, with plenty of air around it. But I suspect the scratches have affected the tree as the leaves are turning yellow and falling....is there a way to fix it? It's such a beautiful tree, I'd hate to see it go.....

Thanks ladies, I thought it was because of autumn but there's another one planted right across from my villa and it's nice and green....I will try fertilizing it, will bring some leaves and a flower to the store. it blooms a nice large lavender color flower... Sounds like a Jacaranda.. Lucky you ...Some of the Aussie ladies might know the answer

Could it not just be autumn/ winter shedding? What kind of tree is it? Not that I would know the answer but someone might if they knew the species it was.

Yellow leaves can be a sign of nutrient deficiency so it might be worth getting a good fertilizer suitable for your tree and trying that.
