if its a mutil national company, their HR laws would be that of the parent company. my company is obliged to give me 1.5 hours per day for feeding/pumping for 6 months post maternity leave. even if a local company- have you spoken to hr about this? a 30 minute break for pumping sounds fairly reasonable, specially considering all the smoking breaks people take through the day.

Its true the official law here is 45 days of maternity leave with an additional 30 mins + 30 mins off of work for the first year to breastfeed (like you can get home, do that and come back to work within 30 mins!). My company gives us 12 weeks off and I can take the total 1 hour anytime I want (add it to my lunch or go home early for example). If you work in the DIFC, then 12 weeks is the norm. It really depends on the company as international companies will give 12 weeks and local companies might be more inclined to give the minimum. edited by DubaiMaman on 08/02/2011

You might get lucky and find a company whose policies aren't circa 1950 for the rest of the world. I for one, have had to pump milk locked in a stationery cupboard, whilst my office calls me on my mobile. Really condusive to milk production not.....but I am lucky, I am only one of two women in a very large company with sole access to a lockable cupboard, others would have to pump manually or with batteries in the toilet...no thanks. That added to the monstrous 45 calendar days of maternity leave and 3 days paternity leave really sums up the pregnancy and return to work support in this place. http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/bleak-career-prospects-for-uae-moms
