They say on their site:

Estimated Delivery Duration: Supply is activated on the same day of registration

http://www.dewa.gov.ae/consumers/customerguide/service.aspx?serviceno=106

???

The question is:

Can I arrange ahead of time for connection on a specific date IN ADVANCE ? Ie can i arrange now for connection in a week's time? I don't know what they mean by "registration" as above..it suggests to me that the day you go in and do the form, they connect....
Please, please tell me I can do this in advance....

Oh and that they actually do it ON TIME would also be a great help! :D

Told you it was a dumb question ( this is new territory for me :\: )

bbcb, I did mine online. I got a receipt for the deposit which I printed off, and you can attach electronic copies of the forms required. This was in Jan 2009 for a property which had been vacated about a week before we moved in. The link I posted in my previous post takes you to a DEWA page which says "[i'>Activation of Supply for new tenants (Residential, Commercial Premises, etc.). Register with DEWA to activate the electricity and water supplies to your new premises, receive monthly bills and SMS notifications. Supply is activated on the same day of registration. Deposit Fee: Dhs. 1,000 for Flat / Dhs. 2,000 for Villa.[/i'>"

If there is a tenant already in there, you can avoid disconnection altogether if you go in and pay a deposit (in person) BEFORE the current tenant requests the final bill. The tenant can then request the final bill on the date they depart, and you will continue to have services and charged from that date onwards. So, you need to team up with the current tenant. If you are in this situation, please insist at DEWA because their first reaction is to tell you that you'll have to come back and pay your deposit when the final bill had been requested and paid (this can take up to a week!). They CAN accept a deposit if the final bill has not been requested, but I had to argue with the service rep and he asked his manager who said immediately that it was fine. I had also called the Help desk in advance and was told that I could, and I did, and all went very smoothly. If the final bill has already been requested, then you need to wait until said bill has been paid, before you can even pay your deposit and register. Tell current tenants if they pay online to print out receipt of payment and fax to DEWA - otherwise online payments take up to 72 hrs and you lose time. Or, they should go and pay it directly at DEWA. Good luck!

So...here is the answer to my question - learnt the hard way. [u'>[b'>You pay the DEWA from the time you do the forms etc at DEWA - you cannot arrange it ahead of time[/b'>[/u'>. OMG! Why not? Why is everything so "on the spot" here? Who has the time when moving to go to the DEWA office the day before and process these forms? Oh yes I forgot - this is the land of drivers to do this................ btw, bbcb, you don't need the passport copy of your landlord. Great tip on knowing the meter number by the way! Thanks. mutter...mutter....

Hi :) you can connect DEWA in advance - as long as you have confirmation that the previous tenant has cleared any outstanding and requested a final bill . if you call 046019999 and get a fax back statement of the account . (Thinking) ... press 2 it will ask you for fax no and DEWA account no. I dont think that you can connect a new account online you will need to go to a DEWA office - quickest office is Discovery gardens .. you will need Tenancy contract(copy) passport copy ( your and Landlords) DEWA App Form Title deeds(copy) 2100AED for a villa 1110AED for an apt .. and DEWA premises no - on the doorframe of the property normally As soon as you have paid the connection fee - come out of the office and call the same no 046019999 emergency DEWA - they will connect within 24hours ..
