A leap second will be added to world time June 30.

Immediately before midnight dials will read 11:59:60 as clocks hold their breath for a second to allow the Earth’s rotation to catch up with atomic time.

Last time it happened it caused some computer systems to crash when they tried to synchronise.

Hopefully all goes without a clitch tomorrow

Its due to the difference between the rotation of the earth and civil time. If they do not correct it every few years our clocks would be completely out of sync with the length of the day and night. It confuses me too, no wonder computers get messed up, they are not made to accomodate the extra second which can result in some pretty drastic things happening like flights getting grounded.

Not sure I understand this. Why do we need to catch up? (And what will happen in places where all clocks are mysteriously wonky??)

I guess so, because if they did this every month we would eventually go back in time!

We'll [i'>feel[/i'> a second older but we'll be recorded as a second younger. So we will have defeated time. Time travelled?

How will one spend one's extra second? Not sure but will the extra second make us older or younger? We will have lived an extra moment but not counted the passing of it in terms of the calender date, right?
